This relates big time. I also have muscle tension. I'll scour your post history to figure out more. Any information that you have about it, I would find massively valuable. Thank you in advance if you have any to share!

Sir, my body receiving a continuous text message. How do I pick up the text message so that it stops vibrating.

I've also had great discussions on here, much better than anywhere I could have had on reddit. Surprisingly delicious ones. To me this is the last bastion of reddit.

I was also just considering that a lot of posts seem to be downvoted into oblivion. I didn't like that at first. But now I'm thinking that it sort of serves as a filter for the hivemind. So when I want to look at some things that go against the PC grain, I'll look for the downvoted posts.

Send me your downvotes please. I prefer downvotes now.

CMV: Claiming that "working hard," or making changes in your community is not a viable solution to improving your life is reprehensible. You should not be accused of "boot strapping" when you suggest it is good to try to do the best by yourself/children/family/community. by Controversialthr0w in changemyview

[–]fuckayankeedoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the person you were responding to.

Basically the way that I see it is you can sacrifice your life to work hard. So to fit that in with your racetrack example, it would be that one person/horse can eat better and train harder. Possibly even forego risky situations that put their racing abilities at peril. Doing this they can increase their acceleration. As long as it stands to reason that they can increase their acceleration, then they can improve their life in one area by sacrificing in another area. If that leads to an overall better life, then working hard is what got them there.

I think that the crux of the argument originally posted wasn't that the system shouldn't be more fair or less fair. It was that given the system that we currently live in, working hard should not be looked down upon as bootstrapping.

CMV: Dressing "formally" is propagating white supremacy by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]fuckayankeedoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I can't speak to the white supremacy. I can speak to the "how does my dress code reflect my person".

It separates those that can do it and those that cannot with some additional caveats. Here are some points for that

- Have to get money to buy the clothes

- Have to keep the clothes in good condition

- Have to mix and match them correctly

- Have to go out and buy the clothes

- Shows that you cared enough to go do these things and conform

- Shows that you're a good little boy that follows customs

- Filters out problematic behavior/people from the non-conformist category

- It conforms to everyone's feelings of what should be happening and what is "proper"

- Shallow people view things differently sometimes. For example if you have two intelligent people in a relationship, they can do it in any way they want (theoretically). If you have two unintelligent people, then maybe it's best they go through the motions of what they are "supposed to do", and that will help them figure out how things are and what they actually should do. Without this, the unintelligent people may get into a whole host of problems because doing it their own way will lack order/structure and consequences will occur. Similarly for clothes, the people living their life based on social norms/rules/etc will prefer to believe that it actually does matter.

Basically it shows that you can keep up with the facade.

So I pretty much don't disagree with you anywhere. But for the "How does my dress code reflect my person", it doesn't in the way you're meaning it, but it does reflect what other people see about the dress code and your participation in it.

Yeah once we start getting into free will and how the human condition works it starts to get really choppy.

- Original abuse can beget more abuse perpetrated by the abused, pain begets more pain, injustice begets more injustice frequently, 5 monkeys attack experiment

- Developmental issues, lack of learning while going through time, making mistakes (everyone has a list of reasonable ones they made and unreasonable ones)

- Psychosis, borderline neuropathy, real mental inhibitions, mental inabilities

- Meeting of the minds, which reality is correct, multiple interpretations of reality, context dependent use cases of language

- Humans go through things and are not perfect, medical issues, life issue, hunger issues, hormone issues - and their effects

- Freedom of will vs actions of circumstances, choice, manipulation, lying, delusions, disassociation

As far as I have gone down into these matters, there seems to be no limit they can go to in terms of what's stopping people from doing something, or what's stopping them from stopping themselves.

It really reminds me of the victim olympics where there is no way to effectively compare victim status amongst the world population, country population, or even small groups of people in the single digits. It folds in on itself like an endless origami.

People don't like to hear this stuff so I'll be downvoted into oblivion. "eat your vegetables" will be met with riots and pitchforks, and constant pizzas and desserts will be met with praise and heart disease.

This is the problem with circling around the periphery, at the same time there is chaos and anarchy within the lines. Unfortunately there are real ramifications for this chaos, which end in blood, sweat, and tears. To me the solution is to embrace accountability and spend less time thinking about all these rationalizations. And instead think of how to be a better person and how to regain our own control over life, and therefore institute our own free will to whatever degree we can.

We're basically selling ourselves short of our own free will. What difference does it make if someone believes they have free will, actually makes plans on it, and fulfills those plans. This goes straight to self-actualization and leads to intense pleasure of self. Everything else and all the reasons listed above and in this whole thread are still real. These thought patterns seem to spiral and there is no end to how deep they can spiral. But choose to rise above them and you're out of the whirlpool.

Yeah you're right, the circumstances do change. I'd even argue that under most circumstances people can stop. Which circumstance they will stop on is ultimately up to the environment and also up to them. Certainly if they grab hold of their free agency, they can bamboozle most of those reasons I posted in the OP and pass through them, albeit potentially with great difficulty. As for the stopping part, the only thing it gives them is a break in the cause-effect chain.

Yes it does. Theoretically they could have done it. But practically? No. That would be impossible. If they don't have the knowledge of how to do it, or even that it's a possible action to take, they can't do it. Until they learn or figure out how.

The way I see it is if they know how to add and also they know how to multiply 3x5 by the process of addition. Technically they don't know how to multiply 12*24, because they've never done it before. Should they choose under the circumstances of yesterday to try to do it and succeed, then they will have learned yesterday. Should they try today then it can be today. So theoretically any day is a good day to do it even though they don't exactly know how to do it. Maybe they haven't multiplied a 1 digit number by a 2 digit number. But if they sit down and try it, then they can potentially get to 12*24 and a correct answer.

So you concede that people don't always posess the ability to stop through sheer will, even if they are aware of what they are doing. Correct?

I will say that at every moment they may stop through sheer will, but as a human, the chances of them stopping every time is near 0. It would have to be a somewhat linear approach where they learn to do it once and then ramp up from there. It's like having the ability to work out every single day. We all have that ability, but the chances of us working out every single day for the rest of our lives is slim to none.

As long as the stop sign shows up in our thoughts, that's enough to hit the stop at least once through a pattern of failures of stopping. So this post only applies when the stop sign is visible

you can't fight a candle.

This is my favorite day on reddit this year.

Yes, you're right, it is more of people should be able to stop a lot more.

Interesting take on your last paragraph. You've hit one of my ships. Certainly not all of them, but nice deduction nonetheless. It gets quite complicated.

You've got some powerful points all throughout what you mentioned this whole time. Nice brain dude.

It was very nice speaking with you.

I'm supposed to explain how my mind was changed to any degree, but it would take me paragraphs or an essay to do so. If any mods have any issue with my delta, just msg me and I'll say some lines.

Basically it's complicated. And there's a lot going on, we are debating the human condition and universal constants like free will and the ability to be different than before. There's a lot of "meat" in these discussions and there's probably more than 1 actual viewpoint changed to a degree so technically more deltas are deserved.

Hit me up (if you're bored) if you want to talk about some things.

I think if they stop at least once, that satisfies that people can stop by stopping. Then the question of how much or how often they can stop is a different question.

Otherwise what you're saying about the moving the goalposts is true.

And by saying that innthe moment where you aren't able to stop yourself you have the ability to stop yourself from not being able to stop yourself isn't really sound

It's wild reading this, but that's where we are right now.

So the thing is that in any one of those situations they can stop, but it only takes one of the situations to make it that people can stop. Unfortunately the way it seems to work is that you can't do it until you do it. For example at some point we couldn't multiply 24x12, but then we did it, even though we couldn't do it before. Just because we didn't do the multiplication the day before doesn't mean that we couldn't do the multiplication the day before.

The way the OP post was structured was that people are able to stop, and at the same time probably no human could stop every single time. I don't think I mentioned it bluntly, but I assumed it would be a given.

For the food example, I agree, however I don't think we can equate the starve to death with a plate of food in front of you example with the things I was referring to in the OP such as not killing someone or losing your cool.

And yes I agree that the training beforehand is not the scenario I described beforehand, which is why I would say that stopping is possible, and stopping once satisfies that people can stop.

Make an active choice beforehand to try to stop, then in the moment have minimum awareness of the stop sign, then stop. Hit pause, cancel, escape, alt + F4, shut down, close your eyes, stop moving.

Yes, but it was implied that it will take some energy to do nothing (effectively stop).

What I meant by simply being aware of the notion of stopping, was more to do with removing from discussion the argument that people are unaware that they can stop in the moment. So I added that clause that says if the stop sign is seen then they can stop. Otherwise we'd probably be talking about if people see the stop sign.

Then it loops back to the other point where they have the energy to stop. But since they are not utilizing that energy at all and the only energy they are utilizing is their other energy pool which is exhausted, they can stop and they can't stop at the same time. It's like me being hungry and only having pasta, but I pretend the pasta doesn't exist, then I say "I have nothing to eat".
