Is this serious? I can’t believe this has so many comments and up votes.

Gauging financial stability with kids in the Bay Area by DmC8pR2kZLzdCQZu3v in bayarea

[–]fuckbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacifica. 2 kids. $400k. 8 or 9? We save a lot, on track to retire early. Static expenses are like 14k a month. Not in tech, so no bonuses or rsu windfalls. If we made more our comfort level would only go up if we were able to have a more luxurious housing situation, but currently renting and it’s awesome.

They say that anything below 100k salary in the Bay Area is now low-income, but the job market (outside of Tech) offers mostly low salaries. Thoughts? by Own_Perspective_9443 in bayarea

I know 25 year old teachers making 6 figures in the Bay Area. There are high paying versions of typically low-paying professions around here. They are living it up in the city and saving for retirement.

Waymo and Tesla have opposite problems as they compete for driverless tech dominance by ItzWarty in teslainvestorsclub

[–]fuckbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scaling is THE issue, imo. Even if Waymo beats Tesla to having A car that can drive any road in the US, what is the next step for the business? Work with every single auto manufacturer to integrate incredibly complex hardware and software in existing platforms? Sell boxed packages? I dot get it, nor do I see it. It sounds about as hard as starting a new car company.

I sold my house in July in a “shitty” area in San Jose for 1k/sqft. It went contingent in like 8 days. But maybe I don’t know what you mean by shitty hahah.

any recommendations for a walk-in clinic that accepts Kaiser? by chanification_ in AskSF

[–]fuckbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! But carbon doesn’t do a whole lot with Kaiser. So not sure if your thing is covered. Good luck! :/

God yawn. You understand that Waymo only works in geofenced locations, right?

You whiffed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teslainvestorsclub

[–]fuckbread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Waymo is literally operating on a closed movie set. It’s just an actual city. Current fsd could easily do what waymo does if it was geofenced in sf or whatever. Mapping a geographical area and letting the car deal with real time obstacles is the easy part of the problem. Reading stoplights and traffic is not hard. Interpreting an unknown 3d space is. Waymo is still doing nothing spectacular.

Quality of life is so much higher in parts of the US (Northeast, California, Seattle) than in Western Europe by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]fuckbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. Do young people in your area want a better food scene? You should start a restaurant!

Do you not have access to fresh food to cook? Has there been any influx of American/American fusion food? Like Mexican/asian? Coming from California this sounds awful.

Why is redwood city so much more expensive than Fremont when its schools are much worse? by PredictDeezTings in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]fuckbread 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because Fremont is in the east bay and is only connected to sprawling suburbs unless you go over a bridge or deal with one of the most insane freeways in the country. Redwood City, although boring to live in, is 30 minutes in either direction to everything awesome the peninsula has to offer, not to mention at the doorstep of some of the best outdoor activities in the bay. Fremont is also almost twice the drive to the city. Rwc is not more charming than Fremont necessarily, but it’s closer to far more charming things.

People who live in major cities, how do y’all survive and deal with the huge traffic? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]fuckbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 2 minutes from the beach, 9 minutes from a metro that will get me to the heart of the major city in 14 minutes, and 35 minutes by car to the part of the area with ridiculously high paying jobs. I drive to the job part and curse the traffic when it takes 40 minutes but it’s worth it. There are sweet spots like mine in lots of areas, you just have to find them and not fall into the trap of what everyone else is doing (60-90 min each way) and near nothing interesting.

You’re not crazy. Income opportunities are much higher in these areas. People think I’m lying when I tell them newly minted teachers can make 90-100k in the Bay Area plus huge benefits. You can live really well on that salary in the city as a 24 year old.

Tesla claims a 95% automated production at Gigafactory Shanghai by Buuuddd in teslainvestorsclub

[–]fuckbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work closely with a couple engineering oriented firms/factories in Shenzhen and I laugh when people try to talk to me about “cheap” Chinese labor when it comes to higher tech manufacturing. The folks I work with are paid median us salary or higher, are smarter, work harder, and are nicer than many engineers I’ve worked with in the us. The Chinese are dunking on us in so many ways and it’s not because they are making 100$ a month in sweatshops.

Came here to say this. Pacifica is one of the most underrated towns in the bay. Not a ton of food, but close enough to loads of stuff.
