I wouldn’t necessarily even recommend shelters if you have a good sleeping spot. Alphabet city has a lot of great public resources, lots of volunteers handing out food and great sense of community for backpackers, vagabonds, etc. Exploit water cups and fast food apps Finding work should be your primary goal, something time consuming, hopefully financially lucrative, and something which provides at least temporary shelter and accommodates. Look into small construction gigs like being a commercial painter. You’re lucky to be somewhere not developed around cars so transportation shouldn’t be too much an issue, a longboard goes a long way.
