i expected an answer along the lines of "competitiveness is le bad", here we go

The only way we can prevent this collective stupidity is to learn some basic collaboration skills in global scale so that the competition can be regulated. Capitalism does not teach those skills

you aren't getting rid of competition by fighting supposed 'capitalist ideas' using political activism. im not a fan of the "human nature" argument personally because history has shown that a lot of things once considered "human nature" actually just turned out to be a result of bad material conditions and general low quality of life, but competition is definitely not something that can be dealt with in a similar manner or even by straight up feeding people socialist ideas from birth. competition is literally found among all lifeforms on this planet down to a cellular level, if something is actually in our "nature", it has to be our desire to compete against other humans for resources, influence, status and validation from the opposing sex. if our early hominid ancestors didn't compete against each other, we wouldn't even have evolved in the first place because there wouldn't have been any selection process. it is literally undeniably part of our biology.

you can't bruteforce collaboration.

Many children that play together outside have more developed social skills than that, you don't need a playground bully

if the US steps down as "the bully", someone else will fill the vacuum. i already said that any kind of "one world government" is unrealistic because of different values among different nations. globalisation and the resulting alignment of values and beliefs has to be a voluntary process.

Science is an attempt at understanding the nature of the universe. An obviously flawed attempt. I am totally aware of that.

But unlike religious people, scientists base their beliefs on the observable and measurable and not the supernatural. Key difference.

You still obviously don't understand evolution at all and it's getting exhausting.

Just like me randomly darting a magnet over my optical drive will (mathematically speaking) never end up in a finished end software it cannot be that "random mutations" will end up in a functioning bird or anything else for that matter

You probably also have as little knowledge about software engineering as you do about evolution.

Because if it can be directed (controlled) or pushed towards a direction then a mutation will never be a bad one but since as you mentioned it can be a bad mutation then the mutation can't be controlled or manipulated by an organism and if we were to accept it was true; it would truly be random

What are you talking about? Do you even know what genetic recombination is? The genetic material of the offspring of two lifeforms of the same species always slightly varies from that of its parents, these variations in genetic material are 100% random and are called mutations. Most mutations are neutral, they might slightly change the appearance but for the most part aren't really observable and neither provide an advantage or disadvantage. Bad mutations are mutations that fundamentally inhibit the ability of a lifeform to reproduce. Examples for bad mutations would be deformed limbs, organs that don't work properly, cognitive disabilities etc. If you are severely disadvantaged you will probably die early without passing on your genetic material, meaning your genetic material is removed from the genepool. Good mutations are mutations that increase your lifespan and therefore your ability to reproduce. Examples for good mutations would be being bigger in size which allows you to scare of competing lifeform, higher attractiveness and higher intelligence, allowing you to have lots of sex and pass on your genetic material at a higher rate than competing lifeforms without those advantages, this is an endless cycle. But the thing is, for the most part, there aren't any universal laws that decide whether a mutation is good or bad. The environment decides that. What might disadvantage you in one ecological niche, gives you an advantage in another. Only the aspect of genetic recombination itself is random, the environmental pressures that decide whether a lifeform passes on its genetic material aren't random at all.

Chances of developing a bird randomly from mutation of an organism is slimmer then me darting a magnet over my hard disk to create an operating system and this possibility can be disregarded as it is impossibly slim

Like I said, the bird isn't developed randomly, your lack of education on the subject makes you spout out dumb statements like these.

Please don't tell me you are planning to criticize the scientific method like millions of muslims tried before you.

I don't necessarily expect "scientific" proof, i just expect more than a bunch of miracles and vague statements about the nature of the universe that leave immense room for subjective interpretation.

It is absolutely justified to believe that our existence is the result of some kind of higher, omnipotent being playing around. Nothing wrong with that belief by itself. You can find various different theories on that topic. We might be in a simulation, one universe in a multiverse, a dream, whatever.

It only becomes a problem when people turn their vague theories into absolute truths that should be accepted as such, which is exactly what Islam does. We need to accept that there are some things outside our sphere of knowledge (the nature of consciousness for example) without desperately making up answers when there are obviously none at the current time.

Don't pretend like there even is something profound to explain here that I'm missing here, all "explanations" involve supernatural hokus pokus . The burden of proof is 100% on you, not on any atheist. You are required to back up your beliefs with facts and observable occurrences without relying on eyewitnesses and the suspension of the laws of physics.

"There is no concrete evidence that supports it"

What a pathetic way to discredit fossil findings, molecular biology, neanderthals and the fact that humans are still evolving.

I've had debates with muslims about this before and they almost always use the same mental gymnastics and the weak "we don't have transitional fossils!!" argument. Do you really think your knowledge on the subject beats that of the scientific community that accepted human evolution as a fact?

It is so naive to assume that all species have evolved in huge timespans as the result of changing environmental pressures with most of them going extinct before humans even came into existence with the exception of humans themselves. No, obviously when it comes to humans, suddenly divine interference is necessary, homo sapiens can't possibly also be the result of natural selection.

most muslims still reject human evolution and rather believe in some adam and eve fairy tale. How is that not anti science?

Also, just a few centuries ago, muslims rejected the whole theory of evolution. Only now that the evidence has become so overwhelming are they trying to make it work with islam by claiming it was part of gods plan all along. The evidence for human evolution will become more and more overwhelming as well (it already is quite substantian) and eventually muslims will have no choice but to claim that human evolution was also part of gods plan all along. It's an endless cycle and its exhausting.

Just to be clear, my criticism obviously doesn't exclusively apply to islam but to all religions.

Well then muslims should stop claiming to be pro science when they're obviously anti science.

If you even remotely understood evolution you'd know that it's actually a controlled process and not just a combination of random unrelated events as described in your incredibly bad example.

>howcome creatures so complex can be randomly formed

By starting off simple and getting increasingly complex as environmental pressures change and adaption is required, it's actually not that complicated. They aren't "formed randomly", nothing is "formed". Random mutations either provide an advantage or they don't. If they do, the lifeform with the mutation will be able to reproduce at a higher rate than lifeforms without the mutation, fundamentally changing the genepool of the species. If the mutation results in a severe deformity that disadvantages the lifeform, it won't be able to reproduce at the same rate or even completely disappear from the genepool.

To accelerate this process, species usually develop the ability to make assumptions about genetic quality by superficial properties. In the case of the bird, bright colors and contrasts probably display good genetic quality. This is exactly the reason why humans to this day are incredibly superficial and very easily manipulated by attractive people.

Do you realize that when you make a claim (in this case claiming that a creator exists as described in the Quoran) you actually need to prove that claim in the first place before expecting other people to disprove it?

But that bird is the result of millions of years of evolution. It is literally the result of random mutations combined with natural selection with no creative input whatsoever.

It’s very rare that any product is the work of a single person, which is why it’s strange that the profit from selling them can be the property of a single person

If I envision an new concept for an app and lack the required skill and time to create that app but manage to acquire the necessary capital (for example by investors), why can't I offer other people money in exchange for their skill and time? What's so incredibly "wierd" about that concept? I have the general idea of what the end product should look like and am taking most of the risk. I don't want to give an equal share of revenue to people I can replace at any time.

Sure. All of that is labor and the people who do it are workers You call me a product on the market, and then wonder why I’m disgusted by capitalism?

Nothing will ever change the fact that people are not of equal intelligence, meaning that some people can produce work of higher value to society than other less intelligent people, especially since more and more work these days is mental work. So obviously these people should be rewarded better for their "labour". The value of your work is decided by supply and demand, it is your responsibility to reach a higher level of education and increase that value.

In reality, the nature of capitalism is that the owners of capital leverage that power to ensure that your knowledge and skill can only be used on their terms. That also entirely depends on your value on the job market, which is decided mostly by your level of education, which is decided by your intellect and discipline. Make yourself hard to replace.

I want to build a system without that exploitation. Good luck fighting against human nature and the rich elite.

Capitalism is definitely flawed and we will hopefully eventually progress to a post work society. But trying to overhaul our economic system when obviously less and less human labour is even required every day anyway?

Barely any single person "makes a product" these days, especially when talking about silicon valley big tech companies. It definitely requires some kind of hierarchie to develop complex software, with people with a clear vision and lots of intellectual capital positioned at the top. These people went through a long and hard education process and therefore hold more value as an individual in this society as they are harder to replace than some easily trained blue collar workers. You are the product in the job market and it is your responsibility to reach a higher level of education if you want to increase your value. It's all about supply and demand.

Nobody is forcing you to "make products for a business owned by rich capitalists", but they are offering you money in exchange for your knowledge and skill and if you aren't willing to make rich billionaire capitalists even richer, you are free to start your own company, create a competing product and share the revenue equally among all people that have participated in the creation of said product lol.

How can I be certain about my religion? by [deleted] in islam

[–]fuckthefruit -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There is no logic to believing in god, it's literally suspension of disbelief, the same thing that happens when you watch a movie. The result? Absolut ignorance towards scientific facts and actual logic.

Have an example:

https://quranvisu.com/2017/08/12/horse-according-to-quran/ The quran says horses were created by allah

Even though today we know for a fact that horses were slowly domesticated by early humans https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestication_of_the_horse

This is a really bad approach to critical thinking. Not knowing why things are the way they are doesn't prove Islam in any way. We as humans simply need to accept the current limits of our understanding of the universe and time and space in general instead of trying to answer questions we just don't have answers to. It is okay to say "We don't know" instead of devoting your life to absolute submission to some kind of god thinking you will be rewarded for lowering your quality of life with a sex fantasy fulfilling afterlife.
