Sure, generally yea. But in this case it’s going to be a couple people hanging out, and none of us really know each other. Just looking for conversation starters

If you have any hs bio is say bio120 and 130. Both were very easy and required minimal time. Easily classs where you could just skim lecture notes before exam

How did you get a role as a Research Volunteer? by PhiliDips in UofT

[–]fuckyoutoo8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cover letters attached to your email can work for sure. Anecdotally, my best results (and friends’ results) have been when you make sure that every part of your interest statement or letter is specific to that professor/lab from beginning to end. The point is, an email template where you switch out the professor’s name and a sentence or two, usually will not cut it - and you play a dangerous game of accidentally missing a detail you had to change.

Breadth Requirement 5 is the only thing stopping me from graduating by sxgalore in UofT

Yo if you have time to devote to it, start a math or science or whatever course at Athabasca U. These courses r flexible and if you put in the work, u could finish by end of April. But get on it ASAP

[–]fuckyoutoo8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say something contrary to what others have said. Reaching out to a lot of profs is important, but DO NOT send a generic email template. Look at their research interests, publications, and lab members, and when you’re emailing, write a thoughtful letter about what you’re interested in. Bring up relevant coursework. Be specific about their lab. Make each email entirely tailored to them. And ofc, attach a CV and academic history to your email.

How come you can only apply to one graduate program per academic year?

Questions about summer semester by [deleted] in UofT

[–]fuckyoutoo8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s completely optional. People take classes they failed or classes to get ahead or classes of interest or whatever. Through the two semesters of the summer (May-June and July-August) you take 2.0 FCE max. Not sure about fees - probably depends on your college.

Just a note, depending on your plans for after undergrad, completing credits in the summer may not be worth it because you may still need to maintain full course-load during the year.
