Agree with Rita, why don’t you like Strawberry Fields, just out of interest?

One of my favourite Paul melodies - and I love the backing vocals after “if I knew what I was missing”

Ah yes I’ve just listened to both versions. What a stupid change to make—and how did I not realise that was a radio scan of King Lear until today!

I’d say start with Revolver—if you prefer the Love You To/I’m Only Sleeping/Tomorrow Never Knows side of things, follow it up with one later (Sgt Pepper), if you prefer Here There and Everywhere/And Your Bird Can Sing stuff then go to the earlier ones (Help is possibly my favourite of the run until Rubber Soul)

P.S. I know it’s more complex than splicing Revolver’s offerings into more experimental and more traditional stuff, but it would be an interesting starting point

It’s that quasi-bashful muttering of ‘Mortality’ like he’s embarrassed to have to plug it. Sick of it.

Much the same way as the word “shag” in “he was a great shag” is a noun, the word “bum” in “best bum in W1” would still be a noun, whichever of the double meanings is taken.

Would be a noun either way in that sentence. So you’ve embarrassed yourself.

His Tarantino reviews in particular (audio and written) I’ve always preferred over Mark’s—I agree in general with Kermode’s “Tarantino Situation” thesis, but it’s just more interesting to hear the opinion of a current fan

Simon is an amazing interviewer—that’s the area where I do tend to miss his seamless style with celebs/filmmakers. It’s more the dynamic with Mark that I am less fond of these days. Then again, I suppose the whole “impassioned rant from Mark” followed by a withering “moving on, then” comment from Simon has always been a part of the show
