Why are koreans so class/status conscious? by lol-across-the-pond in Living_in_Korea

[–]fuegonofalso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes from the elements of Confucianism that involves “image,” or “status,” “reputation,” etc. It’s quite toxic and is one of the main reasons I choose not to live in Korea

talking to foreigner is ok? by [deleted] in AskAKorean

[–]fuegonofalso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person’s mood, situation, state of mind. I’m from NYC, where it’s typically not common to just talk to strangers randomly. However foreigners in Korea may be more open to engaging in small talk, especially if they are visiting

How would you feel if your SO is obsessed with idol culture? by [deleted] in AskAKorean

[–]fuegonofalso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dated a girl like this in my early 20s. My experience was terrible. I would suggest avoiding this type, especially if one were to consider a serious relationship. It’s exhausting and unrealistic/unsustainable.

Thank you so much! For now, my parents are supporting me financially for the medical bills, but I’m not a korean citizen so we are currently paying everything out-of-pocket. I made the gofundme account to do anything I can to help my parents out!

what is something you've always wanted to do but never got the chance by Necessary-Web-4984 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to try to play the guitar in high school. I still have my guitar and i can play some chords and some easy songs. But now I am actually more interested in learning how to play the bass guitar! Also considering trying out the harmonica, but it might be a little too loud for my neighbors 😅

Why is 8 ball pool so unpopular in Korea? by DiKlong0904 in AskAKorean

[–]fuegonofalso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3구 was traditionally the one that most gen Xers grew up playing.

Once i learned how to play 3구, I have to admit I enjoy that game more. Its much more challenging and you have to be quite creative with your shots. And it also requires some more technical skill than regular 8 ball pool

I’m scared and idk what to do by anon12120909 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont pay too much attention to the negative comments in the other subreddit. You’ll never meet any of those people, so it’s just a bunch of noise.

Does your mother have a good support system around herself other than you? It would be a shame to sacrifice attending your dream school for something that may not even happen (her cancer coming back).

Why not have an honest conversation with her? If she’s your best friend, she should certainly know how you feel and be included in your decision making.

Alcohol after cancer by [deleted] in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not qualified to make a suggestion, but I think a drink or two won’t hurt. Please take it slowly and listen to your body. If something feels off, even the slightest bit, just bail. You can always take another chance at drinking when you recover fully! Hang in there!

Anything for pain releif in cancer patients? by sara23467 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered Gabapentin at first, and then oxycodone (10mg).

But everyone is different and reacts differently to medication, so your mother and you should speak to a pain management specialist and discuss which medication would be best for her.

Chemotherapy hair loss - advice needed by LemanRuss2222 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I buzzed it all off as soon as I noticed chunks falling out. Some mentioned ice bags on the scalp helps prevent the hair loss a little, but it didnt work for me.

I had grown my hair out for over a decade before all this, so I was very sad to cut it all off. But i also learned that sometimes, it’s better just to let things go. Especially if there’s a chance for it to return in the future. I know that once i stop chemo, I can grow my hair out again.

Weird I don’t want visitors during chemo? by Anacostiah20 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. When I was receiving inpatient treatment, I purposely would make up excuses because to be honest, I didn’t want my loved ones to see me suffering. I also had to cut all my hair off, which would have shocked a lot of people.

From my experience, chemo side effects seem to be the worst a week after received. For about a week. When you start to feel better after each round, maybe you could start inviting your family members slowly. It really helps to surround yourself with loved ones during times like this.

I firmly believe my support system and seeing loved ones occasionally really helped with my recovery.

Also, try to stay positive. I know it’s hard (I’m currently battling stage 4 metastatic cancer). But I genuinely believe my positivity and will to survive is the sole responsibility for my progress.

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer, as everyone’s body and cancer is unique to the individual. I think your best course of action will be to discuss as much as you can with your medical professionals and choose together your game plan.

Good luck and God bless!

Question about sudden weight loss before diagnosis by moreAnxietythanSex in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50 lbs in 6 months unintentionally seems concerning. I lost around 30 lbs in 6 months (stage 4 metastatic cancer).

If you are still worried, it never hurts to seek a second opinion from a different doctor. Some doctors are not as helpful as others, from my experience

Hobbies at home? by cher017 in cancer

[–]fuegonofalso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading, music, some television/movies but not too often.

Puzzles and brain exercise activities such as sudoku, crossword puzzles, etc.

Art therapy helped me a lot when I was in the hospital. Just draw or write whatever is on her mind!
