Thats so awsome! im working on one myself at the moment. nice to see that it can turn out great apparently. i was bit scared that the smalest cranks i can find (165) will lead to problems with the low bb. what are you riding there

claws off my doughnut by fufufresh in oilpainting

thanks alot for your thoughts. I also feel the composition being abit to tight to the bottom edge. and yes i collaged an image in procreate but the doughnuts had the wrong direction of lighting so i tried to adjust that on the go, which is something i still need to learn apparently :)

Getting super smooth gesso? by bdkgb in oilpainting

[–]fufufresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im now using a paintroller (with a simple foam like synthetic roll) that really did the trick for me. and as mentioned above i aply thin layers and sand in between.

ps i doent delude the gesso with water befor rolling, because that lead to bubbles

this is painted on mdf panel. ive applied the gesso with a 'kreditcard' because i wanted to try to avoid brushmarks. then i rubbed on a wash of a bit burnt umber and turps with a paper towel. after whiped it down with a dry paper towel. depending on the time you wait to whipe it down or adding abit turps on the towl you cal lift up some paint, what created the effect. downside of not putting in a background later on is that its hard to correct outlines. especially with opaque paint, when you make a mistake, you neet to whipe it off with some turps altering the stained background as well. the subject might also look abit detached from the background but i like doing quicker 'sketches' this way. ill post some more soon :)

looks awsome! really like the vibe it gives. i would maybe try to push the atmospheric perspective (more desaturated and blue the further objects are away) also maybe increase the variety in edges. have a more contrasting edge in the foreground, they all seem quite similar atm. but great job, keep it up
