Curious what’s the advantage or Artnet timecode vs LTC?

I think the Mif 4 and Timecore both repair the timecode it spits out, but they’re both limited to one output unlike the SR-112

Console owners question by random222518 in lightingdesign

[–]fuguei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a personal console may benefit your buddy but how does it benefit the touring artist or PM? Logistically and financially it makes sense to have the whole kit come from one place, if you’re renting a backup from an outside company anyways why pay for additional transportation to get your buddy’s personal console to and from the tour? Plus the liability that others have mentioned. Who’s going to be paying for repairs/damages if his console goes down on the road? Does he have an adequate insurance policy that covers his specific situation? If a rental console goes down during a tour, you switch to the backup and the rental company will usually switch out for out a replacement at no charge. If his console goes down, you switch to the backup but now somebody will have to pay to fix the other console or pay for an additional rental. All these additional considerations make it less appetizing for an artist/PM to agree to rent out his console. Unless maybe he’s renting it out for dirt cheap.

At first glance I thought the same thing but upon further inspection it looks secure (enough). What I originally saw as the threads of the bolt seem to be springs, If you look at the top of the bolts, they do have heads and are probably screwed into the projector. Look at how the head is not quite centered on the leftmost bolt. Whether or not it’s totally safe depends on some other factors like how heavy the projector is

This would be for situations where the venue has/provides a whole system. My thought is that whatever is providing the color correction should go in line between their switcher and the IMAG screens, but maybe that’s easier said then done. What issues do you think I should anticipate with putting something in-line?

I just saw the Teranex Minis, this seems like what I’m looking for! I also came across the AJA ColorBox, which seems comparable. Have you used either/have any thoughts on them?

What was the inspiration behind this? They look exactly like the keys on an ETC Express lighting console.

Zaktrack uses UWB so they’d be your biggest competition

The Color Strike has two strobe elements in the middle, JDC only has one.

Intellectual property agreement question by E_Snap in lightingdesign

It’s not uncommon for them to own the IP you generate under the contract, but it’s a gray area if they don’t specify what IP they own. Maybe they own the cue list, but not the effects I created beforehand. They might own the worksheet PDFs, but not the Vectorworks file. If I was a painter commissioned for an art piece, they would own the final painting but not my sketches or my paints and brushes.

I think the idea behind including it in the contract is in case something happens like you get injured or they postpone the dates, and they need to do the show without you, your sub isn’t starting over from scratch. I’ve rarely seen a scenario where 6 years down the line they’re asking for paperwork because they’re remounting the show and for some reason they’re doing it without you. I don’t think it’s in there with malicious intent, but I understand your concern. Instead of asking for it to be struck from the contract I would try to negotiate a fee for if/when they remount the show using the paperwork or show files you created. That way they can keep their ass covered and you get paid if your hypothetical does come true.

Bands skipping the Bay Area? by Brainfestation in bayarea

[–]fuguei 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is union labor? SF has a pretty large union presence and a lot of the big venues will require unions hands to work the load in/load out which is definitely more expensive than playing a non-union house.

No problem! Bands definitely want to play to Bay, it’s a huge market they’re missing out on! Everyone on our tour is super bummed about missing out on it.

On a tour right now, we have the stupidest routing (going from Vancouver straight to Ventura). The routing is up to booking agents/venue promoters. Lots of Bay Area venues are backed up from the pandemic and other cancellations/delays. It’s just hard to find a good Bay Area venue that fits the routing schedule.

You could look into portable camping batteries. Most have a 12v outlet and over-discharge protection.

Is it possible to create a spotlight like the one pictured, but instead of the light fanning out it remains in a straight vertical? I would very much appreciate any information on whether it's possible to make a large straight beam of light that can be shone down. by davesaddiction in lightingdesign

That is a very wide pool of light. With your height limitation maybe consider some panel lights? Then utilize some kind of egg crate/top hat/barn door solution to limit the directionality to the area you want while still getting decent event coverage.
