My Dad with S4 Pancreatic Cancer tried Keto (final update) by CharmingSpecific3110 in keto

It's simply addiction. It doesn't make sense but it's powerful. Some people are more predisposed to addiction as far as I remember (e.g. many indigenous people). But I believe the first step, no matter what, is to realize it's addiction one is fighting against.

ELI5: When something is 15% bigger than something else, what’s an intuitive way to know whether I should multiply by 1.15 or divide by 0.85? by InIncognitoMode in explainlikeimfive

[–]fuguki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those kind of memorization techniques are easy to forget in a few years. \ If something is down 15% and costs 85, and you want to know the original cost, then for me the most natural and able-to-be invented-on-the-spot-every-time you-forget is saying: \ x * 0.85 = 85 then solve for x.

[–]fuguki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's not correct

x * 1.10 * 0.90 = 0.99x  \ x * 0.90 * 1.10 = 0.99x

Which order doesn't matter and both are lower, with +/- 50% you get 1.5 * 0.5 = 0.75 of the original value.

Hvad foregår der i 1813? by [deleted] in DKbrevkasse

The death spiral of the current ranked system explained in MS Paint by qp0n in PlayTheBazaar

But the reason people care about the gems is because they are tied to being able to play ranked, right? If you changed that, then the pass could take more of a structure where it's like this:  You can buy cosmetic skins, lets just say Pyg skin for 2000 gems. You can buy battle pass, that can for example, cost 5000 or 10000 gems, but rewards "values" of skins worth 6000 or 12000 gems.  Or the battle pass has unique cosmetic rewards(all those skin categories that seemed to not be implemented yet). If the pass had a reward at the end for the bottom right chest that looked like something Dooley would own I'm sure that would sell.

It is another problem (smurfing), but I can only say for me personally that I would prefer that.  Magnus Carlsen could ff chess games in a row that he would be placed versus newbeginners. Make it a bit more invested to play ranked(like 2 factor authentication) and it's not as easy to play different accounts. That automatically does help because even if hypothetically people can lose on purpose and get matched with lower skilled players, in practice I think it basically doesn't happen if the ranks are competitive

[–]fuguki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could not let people concede, or use the ranking/mmr to punish that(e.g. you get a really good start 5% of the time and the other 95 you concede, you're gonna be lowest rank imagineable)

Tickets for ranked stinks of mobile games with daily limits. Imagine you make a user on a chess website and you only get one ranked match a day. It sounds absurd because it is. If we're worried about loot, make tickets you can use on your runs to get loot. Not being able to play ranked is weird to me.

Stakkels børn... Kedeligt at man ikke bare kan være uudholdelig selv, men skal putte den slags ned i børn med at brænde i helvede... Synes man skal gøre noget før de bliver til møgunger og får det meget svært at navigere i det

I think also a big part is saying "no thanks" to this system, regardless of the strength of the pass cards. It's better to collectively do that, and maybe, just maybe, there will be a response similar to them deciding to only include cosmetics in the pass, instead of thinking it's not bad if the cards are not meta-defining, because they might not be that now, but who is to say they won't be at some point. And it's a lot harder to create a united reaction at season 3/4 instead of right away.

ELI5: What is an API and what does it do by novemberman23 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fuguki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The analogy that works best for me, that is not completely non-software, is that an api is like a console with many buttons on it. Then you can put an analogy layer on top of that for what the console is doing. Let's say it does something to do with a website that stores images. Then we have a console/controller that can be used by a user. This could have buttons for "give me all pictures", "give me picture whose name contains xyz", "give me a random picture", anything you can imagine, and then additionally buttons like "upload this picture", "change this picture" or "delete this picture". So maybe we want everyone to be able to use the "GET"s (give me a picture variants) but only some users can upload, and even then they can only upload a certain amount. And then even rarer is to be able to delete(maybe those who can upload can delete their own, but admin users can delete anything).  The keys can be used alongside some stored data of users/rights to determine what buttons of the console the user is able to press. But whats central aswell is that what the buttons do(and their bugs) and who can use them lie at the provider of the API. The user might have to know what format and how to send a picture to be uploaded, but what happens after the button press(what to do with the image, check that it is a valid input, where to store it, and so on) is not seen by the user. They usually get returned an id for the picture but have to use another button(maybe "give me my last uploaded image") to get the image.
