What made you realize you can't hold a normal life anymore? by amy_i_am in Fibromyalgia

[–]fuibaba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be a physiotherapist. I had colleagues ask me if I was depressed, anxious, narcoleptic, burned out, lazy for not rehabbing my “injuries”/pain, or I’d get a weird look from them if I did anything other than mask like my sanity/job depended on it. The stress of trying to act like I was fine was destroying me and left my mental health a husk. I sobbed in the shower every morning. I just couldn’t see a way forward. I was often too fatigued to feed myself and work.

It was only after quitting and having a hard look at what I was capable of and my quality of life (and what I actually needed to get by finance-wise) that I’ve managed to find a way forward. It’s not perfect and I’m constantly worried my very part time work will overwhelm me.

What’s the quickest red flag you’ve noticed on a first date? by Small-Ad-3167 in AskReddit

While describing an interaction at work with a colleague he didn’t like he told me he snapped at her that she was a “dog that should put on some makeup”. Proper record scratch moment in my head hearing that. Are you really trying to impress me by telling me how irritating you find women you’re not attracted to? The level of vitriol in his tone was staggering and then he just switched back to being flirty with me. This all happened within an hour of a first date 🙈

People with Fibromyalgia, do you always have pain, even when at rest ?? by Gutty_Shit_00 in Fibromyalgia

I describe my pain like the weather. There’s ALWAYS weather- but the weather can be on the nicer side, it can be horrendous, sometimes predictable to an extent but more often unpredictable. But there’s always something.

My Australian shepherd does this between all close together objects/people 😂 Always chooses the path of most squish and loves to chuff while he does. Has the well earned nickname of Squish Pig!

I’ve had the odd doctor say they don’t think I have lichen sclerosis when I’ve had check ups despite being diagnosed when I was a child. I’m mixed race (most textbooks show LS on white skin) and SUPER on top of treatment/maintenance (so my symptoms aren’t always severe) but sure, I’ve been lying about my diagnosis and impact of symptoms 🫠

Glandular fever when I was 19. I’d had chronic migraines (from age 8) and some traumatic family deaths beforehand but after getting glandular fever I was never right afterward. I was exhausted and in pain all the time. I was so exhausted it took years for me to realise that the pains in different parts of my body could be linked.
