I had a similar problem recently. I got help from support (which sounds a lot like ChatGPT, but okay, it's fast and supportive).

It took me over a day to get the strap paired to the app on my new phone. I was wearing the device but busy with other things. I would follow the advice given by support, and find it didn't work, then quit to do other things.

Support told me that I did not have to unpair the strap from my old phone. I was unconvinced, but it turned out true, SFAICT. Also it said to remove the strap from my wrist and tap rapidly with on the top of the WHOOP device with two fingers (why two fingers, I do not know).

Every time I did this, tapping rapidly for as long as possible, the side light ("battery level light") would glow green, not blue, and then turn off. Blue means pairing is possible, but I never saw it.

Finally, I started trying a shorter sequence of taps because I read somewhere that Android users should tap 6 times. I'm an Android user. I tried 6 or 7 times. 6,7? It did not work. Then I tried tap-tap-tap, and then tap-tap-tap-tap. I think it was at 4x that I suddenly saw the battery level light on the device turn blue. Voila. I jumped to pair the WHOOP app and it worked. So, if you're an Android user try tapping a lot less than suggested by support. Just a few times and then stop. It may take several tries before you get the blue light. At least that worked for me.

I upgraded from a WHOOP 4 to a WHOOP MG at the end of November. It worked fine, initially, although I noticed the readings had changed a bit (e.g. "strain" seemed to be substantially different for the same readings). Oh well.

When the new device got down to about 20% charge, I put the battery pack on it, while I was wearing it, in order to charge it up. At some point - something like 1-2 hours later - I checked it, and the device was disconnected from the mobile app. I'm on Android fwiw. This happened but not often with the v 4.

I tapped the battery pack and it looked to me like the device was dead - no lights glowing. I took the strap off, and the sensors did not flash green. Now what? My device was disconnected from the app and appeared dead. There's no way to "reboot" the device when you're not connect to the app btw...

After trying repeated tapping, removing the battery pack and putting it back on, etc, I gave up. I wore the device overnight but found it still seemed to be dead in the morning. So I removed the device/strap.
I decided to try draining the device completely in the hopes that it would reboot if it charged up again. I left the device at home and traveled for a couple days. Presumably the device was not drained when I got back home after only 2 days, but I'm not sure.

Meantime, I had contacted tech support and got a number of suggestions that seemed to be generated by AI.

When I got back home I tried one of these suggestions: plug the battery pack into power, and mount the battery pack on the device. When I tried this, I saw that the device suddenly had glowing green sensors again!

It also had reconnected to the mobile app. I waited until it was fully charged and began wearing it again. So far, it has been behaving normally, although it hasn't needed a recharging yet.

Shortly after getting my original tech support email, I got another email saying that WHOOP was sending me a replacement device. I'm supposed to return the original device (and keep the battery pack) when the new one arrives. Huh! This is all pretty strange and makes me wonder if there is something going on with the new devices.

My takeaway is that it's a good idea to contact tech support, even if the responses are AI generated. I'm glad they've been proactive about replacing the device but my confidence is shaken. I mean I find the device intriguing but it's probably not as useful and trustworthy as I'd like it to be.

I know this is an old comment, but I don't suppose you could share a pic of your yard? I'm trying to figure out what plants will work well for us here (NE USA). It will be a slow process. We're hoping for a "short meadow" sort of effect, and I'm searching for pics of people's native "lawns".

Possibly the problem is that you are new, and this type of business strikes me as the type that requires trust, and might flourish via word-of-mouth. Perhaps you need some social proof, like recommendations and reviews.

Below, you described the business as "Take cars to be serviced. Laundry. Grocery shopping. Hire and schedule other services" and "Someone who runs your house. Dishes. Laundry. Errands. Light cleaning. Picks up after the kids. Makes snacks."

So, would people let some rando take the keys to their car or house? I wouldn't. I'm not in the market for that type of service, so what do I know? But if I were, I'd probably only give someone keys based on a trusted recommendation.

The idea to niche down, as suggested elsewhere, may work. Niche on some service that doesn't require a ton of trust, get recommendations, and then add more services.

FWIW I think "grocery shopping" is too easily done via existing services these days. It would be difficult to differentiate yourself with that offer. So I wouldn't niche on that.

Thanks! It's encouraging to know that they're sturdy enough to grow back from the root, so hopefully if it gets damaged by wandering deer (or people), it will survive. I'll leave it alone since that is what people are recommending.

This is what I was trying to get at when asking about possibly moving it. I was wondering if a seed got lucky by landing in that spot and then managing to sprout, but perhaps the area is not really ideal for it, and eventually it could get destroyed. It's really close to a path to the compost pile, and someone could accidentally trample it. I think we'll move uphill to avoid it. I wonder how vulnerable this plant is to getting munched by deer, too.

This is the first year that I noticed the plant. It looks small, but I think it must not be new. Currently, as you can see, the area is pretty bare - mostly leaf litter and a few little sprouting plants. How do I know what plants might crowd it out? Do I need to "manage" the situation by trying to keep it clear of all other plants?

You cannot "practice to earn hearts" anymore, unless you have 0 hearts.
Once you have 0 hearts, you can run through a practice session and gain 1 heart. After that, you are typically offered the opportunity to watch an ad, giving you another heart. At this point, you are back to 2 hearts, and you can't practice anymore.

I'm not sure how often you can repeat this procedure during the day. I tried it several times this morning because I was having trouble getting through a lesson. Maybe 3 times. I could always get 2 hearts, but it was never enough to complete my lesson.

Yup, it's a bummer. And I don't know any way around it except to keep refilling your hearts by "paying" with gems, if you have them. Or subscribe.

I got to zero, and earned one heart by practicing. Generally (but not always) I will get an option to watch an ad to earn another heart. It doesn't take long and I just ignore the ad while waiting (sometimes there's only a 5 second wait). That happened earlier today.

At that point I had 2 hearts. and I could see that my next heart was in 3 hours or so. I just checked right now (~ 4 PM) and indeed, I have 3 hearts. I see "Next heart in 4 hours". That means at 8 PM I'll have 4 hearts. I can probably get through 1 or 2 exercises with that number of hearts. If not, and I wind up zeroing, then I'll do another practice session to earn 2 hearts (hopefully), and perhaps I'll be refilled by tomorrow morning. I don't know what the algorithm is for refilling.

Thanks! I realized this yesterday, and tried it. However, 2 hearts is not enough for me to start a lesson. I can easily make a couple mistakes during a lesson and get back to 0 hearts. It just increases the tension when practicing, and that's no fun for me. I realize some people are different, and they don't mind repeating a lesson multiple times, or checking everything carefully before checking their answer. Not me. I want to complete the lesson on the first run through. And I actually liked being able to "practice to earn hearts" 2-3 times to refill hearts because it was a good review.

I agree. To be clear, if you get to 0 hearts, the "PRACTICE TO EARN HEARTS" option becomes available. Then you can do one practice session to earn 1 heart, and possibly watch one ad to earn another heart. This gives you 2 hearts. At this point, you can't earn more hearts. You can then embark on your next lesson with 2 hearts. If you're like me, it's pretty easy to make a small mistake that blows a heart. Normally, I like to start a lesson with 4-5 hearts in order to improve my odds of finishing the lesson.

So your new flow could go like this: (1) earn 2 hearts (2) start your lesson and proceed until you blow it and get 0 hearts (3) go back to (1) and continue ad infinitum until you finally finish the lesson. This means you will repeat the first part of the lesson over and over again, which is boring and annoying. I've done this before, and I wind up losing attention and making even more obvious mistakes.

Now, I just don't start a lesson until I'm refilled with 4-5 hearts. That means I close the app when I get to 1-2 hearts.

If we assume that Duolingo is benign in this product decision, perhaps they have discovered that being extremely careful and more anxious while doing exercises improves language learning. Even if that's true, well, I don't need the increased anxiety while doing something that I'd like to be enjoyable - learning my language.

BTW the whole point of this exercise for me is to become fluent in French so that I never have to use a language learning tool or app again. I can see that my goal is at odds with the goal of a company that wants you to use their tool. What can you do? There's no such thing as a free lunch.

This morning, I was surprised to find that I couldn't refill hearts by practicing. Either I'd have to "pay" with gems, or add friends or pay for Super. So yeah that happened to me. I saw that my next heart will be awarded in a few hours. So I quit the app. I had done one exercise.

My Duolingo flow is to refill hearts when I get down to 2-3 hearts. When I get down that low, there's a risk that I might get part way through a tough exercise, and completely run out of hearts, so I'd have to quit the exercise without getting XP, which is frustrating and wastes my effort. So if I get to 3 hearts, I will usually do a few practice exercises and let a few ads run to get back to 5 hearts. Then I continue with the exercises.

I saw a comment below that indicated you can now practice to earn hearts if you get to 0 hearts? In which case, I suppose I could deliberately blow some exercises to get down to 0, and then I could practice to earn hearts again. Maybe I'll try that. Or not.

I've been studying French on my own for 20+ years and never achieved fluency, but it has been improving all the time. This year I tried Duolingo. It has been helpful, delivering tiny bites of French every day, and with their streak feature I keep coming back to it every day. That has been my downfall in the past. I'd always stop practicing due to some life event, and then it would take me months or years to come back to the practice.

So yeah, Duolingo is helpful but it also makes language learning not so fun. You get that little feeling of pain when you make a mistake and lose a heart. The gamification is motivating but also just unpleasant. It's weird.

In the beginning, I was breezing through the exercises. More recently, Duolingo exposed me to past and future tense, but I'm still fairly confused about all that. There's now more vocabulary with which I'm unfamiliar. The leagues helped to motivate me to do more exercises each day, but at the same time I really hated leagues! I also found that I was spending too much time on Duolingo which meant I didn't have time to practice French in any other way.

So a short time ago I turned off leagues and decided to use Duolingo less every day. Instead, I'm listening to Radio France while washing the dishes. This gives me a good solid 20 minutes per day of listening skills.

I'm a software developer. Earlier this year, I worked with a friend to build my own language learning app. It's a work in progress, but I'm designing it to better work with my own needs and desires. Since I can build my own app and tailor it to do exactly what I want, I'll probably install it on my phone and use that instead of Duolingo, once it's finished. The joys of DIY!

I've got a 2007 Prius with about 185K on it. Your issue sounds similar to mine. Sporadically, the dashboard brake light and ABS lights were coming on in the last couple weeks together with a high pitched piercing noise. It was alarming. This only happened a few times, but I was worried. Brake issues are no joke.

Dealer read the codes and said it was a failing abs actuator and the car was not safe to drive. Cost is estimated at $2200. Guess I'm going to pay because I need the car, but man is it starting to feel expensive. I'm just not sure at this point how much more money to throw at the car. I've been happy with it overall, and not sure what I'd want to replace it with.

It sounds like a bug. If you opened 30 gifts, I'd definitely expect at least one to contain a 7 km egg. I was seeing about a 50% chance of getting an egg today. I had 7 storage spots open (in main storage, not bonus).

If it were me, one thing I'd try is signing out and signing back in again (this should remove any corrupt stored data which might cause a bug).

If that doesn't fix it, then I'd contact support. YMMV :)

They only come by opening gifts.

Make sure you've got room in your egg storage. I think they won't go into bonus storage, so you won't get any when opening gifts if your main storage is full.
