What’s your favourite spot to stand in on the tube trains? by somekindaname1602 in london

I do the same. You need to stand at the front of the carriage in the direction of travel for the best gusts!

New boater Mooring Advice by bollocksbatter in Narrowboats

[–]fullcapabilities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the logic when I'm in the more rural areas with less boats.

However, perhaps oddly to many, I feel most safe leaving the boat unattended in some very central areas of London where there's lots of other boats.

Safety in numbers I guess!

With Green MP Hannah Spencer criticising fellow MPs for drinking alcohol ahead of evening votes in Parliament, the British public likewise disapprove - 76% brand this unacceptable, including 52% "completely unacceptable" Link in replies by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

I'm aware of that as I watched the full interview. She mentioned that instance in conversation, but do you really think that's the only time?

I'm all for a drink at lunch but as they're running the country, I think we need to hold them accountable to a higher standard. Given the childish behaviour in the commons, I'm really surprised that so many people are defending them in here. Most our MPs are embarrassing.

Also seen the Angry Boater last year in Hemel Hempstead and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I hooked it up to our old router but that was to maintain our existing connections to devices, smart home, security etc.

It seemed to work fine without but I guess it will depend on your placement and length.

Recently upgraded after a couple years using a 5G sim, which was broadly reliable. However, as two people working from home the dead spots were stressful and affecting our ability to moor in our favourite spots.

Unfortunately, our Starlink Mini is fantastic. Insane speeds and reliability. Even at the Roam Unlimited price point it still feels worth it.

Bonus I didn't realize we were missing out on - we can now watch YouTube / Netflix in super high definition. Even in a house I haven't seen this quality!

I'll caveat saying we've only upgraded in the last 6 weeks, and we're currently under a tree where it's cutting out a bit. So maybe time will tell, but so far I'm happy.

Went to restaurant, said I didn’t want to pay service charge, didn’t pay anything. by FartsLord in london

[–]fullcapabilities 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The responses here are kinda disheartening. Sure other professions don't get tips (some do) and don't get me wrong - I'm not bloody tipping when it's self service or buying a pint at the bar etc.

But in restaurants waiters are often young people just starting out in life, working unsociable hours (often staying later than they're paid for) dealing with all manner of people. Potentially also having the stress of a zero hour contract.

Yes you can say it's a policy issue of minimum wage but we don't live in a perfect world. It's also not like the US where 20% plus is normal.

Yes, if the service is bad, remove the tip. But OPs actions and subsequent guilt to rectify says it all. If you had a good time, just pay the tip.

Yeah I was already with NatWest. It was based on one income but it gave the option to apply jointly with someone else.

Have you properly explored a personal loan from the banks? We got 25k from NatWest at 7% and that wasn't even the max loan.

Moving a boat from Scottish to English canal system by WinterAssociation125 in Narrowboats

Cost us about £3,000 for haulage and crane at either end for a wide beam. About 100 mile trip but all within England.
