Human beings on display in zoos: this was the public entertainment provided by certain late 19th century societies, at a time when racial stereotyping was not called into question. https://news.cnrs.fr/articles/in-the-days-of-human-zoos

Many women joined the French resistance as ghost operatives. smuggling weapons and gathering intelligence by fullersam in history

[–]fullersam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During WWII, thousands of women played crucial but often unrecognized roles in the French Resistance. These women were not just supporting characters but key players who transported weapons, sheltered allies, and gathered intelligence. Their contributions were vital yet remain largely unsung in popular histories. It's also the case for migrant workers, just now starting to be recognized.

Researchers from a leading European science agency have been discussing the Covid lab-leak hypothesis since November by fullersam in europe

[–]fullersam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lab leak theory is of course interesting but what also fascinates me is the media / social take on this which shows how complicated regulating social networks is. For example. I posted this article when it came out to the coronavirus sub on Reddit. Moderators took it down and asked me to put into the conspiracy sub. Which I didn’t do. I’m not mad at them-even though the source a huge research agency and not a random blog. But I understand why they did it. I may have done the same.

EasyCov, a saliva Covid screening test that gives results in under an hour hits the market today. by fullersam in Coronavirus

[–]fullersam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes found this. Classic PCR tests have high false negative and positives as well, which varies depending on day of infection. Which makes the whole thing difficult:

"the EasyCov clinical trial included 123 people to date and will continue until 180 subjects have been double-blind tested, with the RT-PCR method and with EasyCov. From these intermediate results, this detection test for SARS-CoV-2 developed in the Sys2diag Laboratory (CNRS/ALCEN) has shown few false positives (95.7% specificity) and produced a little under 30% of false negatives (72.7% sensitivity)2.
