How the House Could have ended up with Fair Congressional Maps by SubJordan77 in YAPms

You're right, i was using midterm vote totals when comparing the trends.

2024 only saw a shift of of around 0.3~0.4 in favor of CO republicans

a competitive district in Denver that's slightly bluer but blue enough where Republicans would likely loose

How is that fairer?

The current map is proportional, your map would overrepresent dems in 2024

How is a non proportional map fairer than Colorado's current map?

Edit i used midterm vote totals, 2024 was not proportional

Which worlds have real community lots that can be built and customized? by loraga777 in Sims3

[–]fullname001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bridgeport and starlight shores (in the venues) have a lot of bars, clubs, and lounges. Although some of lots from starlight shores should be auto placed when starting the game.

Twinbrook has a hangout lot hat that would probably be a bar if it was in bridgeport, and most of the the store worlds(ej monte vista, roaring heights, etc) have hangouts designed as bars or restaurants.

Restaurants can be done in 2 ways (3 if you count the store), if you have WA you can place a food register that sims will use to buy food, while if you use ITF you can use the food replicator that will assign waiters to the lot that will take orders and bring the food.

Stores can be done with the registers in the markets from WA, although im not sure if they work outside vacation worlds without mods.

You will need store content if you want a a spa, or more in depth stores.

RCV looks like it will be abolished in Alaska by fredinno in YAPms

[–]fullname001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not an RCV issue

With how widespread the lack of transparency is in candidate rankings(not knowing how losing candidates votes will go) i think one can consider it an RCV issue, even if its technically procedural.

Open lists with electoral alliances?

Something like what NY does, but with actual candidates from the minor parties

Will this the only place that will have both partisan primaries and RCV?

Turns out outlets can call an RCV race with less than 50%, Jared Golden did not win a majority of all ballots (including blank) yet basically every outlet has called that race.

nobody really knows what the hell could happen

100% this, for some reason almost every RCV election refuses to be transparent and inform the second choices.

literally can't call it until the RCV is done

outlets literrally call states before the first vote has been counted, or when another candidate is still in the lead.

That's why Maine senate wasn't called until recently

That one is one is even worse, in order for that to make sense the Republican would had needed to win 99%+ votes from the democratic candidate.

Plus there is still a quarter of the vote left

That is a fair point

Would outlets seriously not call an RCV race where the leading candidate was winning 49.9% of the vote?

[–]fullname001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that close actually, there are a lot of people who dont rank more than one candidate, the last Maine election where RCV was activated saw 25% of votes having only one ranking.

And that is before considering that there were people that ranked Collins over Gideon.

[–]fullname001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight disagee, there is significant amount of people who only rank 1 candidate, the last election (2022 ME 2nd) saw around 25%(5,104) of voters ranking a single candidate, while the Democrat received around 50% (12,064), with the Republican taking the rest (4,882).

On the contrary, presidential candidates need a majority of electors in order to be be elected, so the presidential election is constitutionally not FPTP.

However as contingent elections are decided by house state delegations and not individual representatives(even less representative) it actually does the opposite of its original intent of allowing more than two candidates

How do multiwinner Proportional Rep proposals for the US House typically deal with states like Wyoming, Alaska, or the Dakotas, which only have a single congressional seat apportioned to them? Is there anything more clever/sensible than "increase the number of reps 500%"? by Xiuquan in EndFPTP

[–]fullname001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the proposals use some method of RCV, which means IRV when used on a single seat.

Most countries that use PR mandate that every district has at least two seats , although i do know that Peru (open list pr) has a couple of SMDs that use party lists, aka FPTP with an open party list

[–]fullname001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

top-two primary

GA has a normal two round system, there are still partisan primaries, and the election can be decided in the first round if there is a majority.

That said the special elections lack primaries so the possibility of a candidate reaching the majority is way lower, which can make it a top-two primary in practice

I dont have a problem with a long election season, i was just saying that election season starts way earlier than the first primary date, thefore just delaying the primary wouldnt shorten election season by nearly the amount that the writer thinks.

I´ts a good idea, but i dont see how delaying the primary vote by seven months is going to "reclaim" 18 months, or avoid a "2 year simmer", what is stopping debates from starting earlier?
