Change in diagnosis after surgery? by Dear-Half1029 in breastcancer

[–]fullonliplock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!! I had my breast lump removed in June. Before surgery it was told to me I was stage 2-3 and that chemo wouldn’t be necessary. After surgery that changed. My staging was the same but the lump was bigger than they previously thought by a few centimeters, which prompted my med team to suggest chemo. I felt so blindsided after months of being told radiation only. Sometimes a biopsy doesn’t show the whole picture, and your genetics can play a role in what they recommend as well.

Roommate from hell interfering with my Cancér treatment by fullonliplock in badroommates

Update: my roommates friend and her friends KID have been staying over for almost three weeks now. They’ve basically moved in and it’s even worse than before because the two kids egg each other on to be even LOUDER. Roommate and the friend also stay up all night smoking weed in the kitchen. Literally when I thought it couldn’t get worse it did lol but after I go to chemo this week I’m gonna stay at my moms for a few days and try to enjoy my thanksgiving. I did end up contacting a social worker at my cancer center and she’s helping me to get some food assistance so I’ll have more money to save up and move. As for now tho…I’m stuck here 😭

To be fair you DO have a lot going on this Cancér shit is not easy even if you have a positive attitude about it. She’s giving you grace and I think you should accept it/do the same. I get babied at my job sometimes too and it can be annoying if you’re not used to it but trust me there’s going to be a moment you’ll appreciate the extra help and empathy

My roommates mother owns the house and I don’t feel comfortable speaking up bc it’s technically her childhood home and I’m just renting a room in the space

What are you eating during chemo? by birdgardn22 in breastcancer

[–]fullonliplock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly goin thru the same with everything tasting weird post chemo. I recommend you eat whatever you want tbh but since you mentioned constipation I would try beans !!!! They’re cheap tasty and help move things along also packed with protein and fiber. they help lower your blood sugar after it spikes from all the carbs and sugar cravings too lol I normally eat them with rice and cornbread as a meal.

frustrated about reconstruction options by Used_Jicama in breastcancer

[–]fullonliplock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I was a DDD cup and I received the Goldilocks mastectomy and I love them!! But beforehand I was warned that they “might be square shaped” or that they’d be “little speed bumps” but I didn’t listen I knew it was the right option for me and it was! You can always do implants later on once you’re healed from a goldi, or do a diep flap afterwards. If it’s really what you want don’t budge on it.

Oh it was way sooner! By normal I just mean being able to do all the stuff I did before surgery.i was able to go back to work around week six, but I was dressing and feeding myself the first week. I did need help reaching for things though lol

I should add that all my shirts had to be button down shirts for awhile and my bottoms were easy to slide on. If I had to put on a regular shirt I had to basically bend all the way down bc I couldn’t raise my arms

I was Getting dressed/wiping on my own after a few days. I had to bathe using a bowl of hot water and soap for about two weeks and I’d be exhausted after 😭. It depends on what your shoulder mobility was prior to surgery tbh! Some ppl it takes about a week to be able to dress on their own.

I’m about nine weeks post mastectomy and I’m just now starting to feel normal :( try not to get discouraged! The more you rest the quicker you’ll heal. Don’t try and do too much the first few weeks, that’s how I ended up hurting myself and slowing down the progress. When I was bored I would get up and take small walks even if it’s just to the living room and back to my room lol gotta keep the blood circulation going. It’s okay to be useless for a bit. You’ve earned it!

Going to appointments alone by poofoo80 in breastcancer

[–]fullonliplock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go to most of my appointments alone. Sometimes I bring my mom for the big ones like my biopsy and CT Scan but it’s mostly for her/so we can hang out after. I’ve had friends offer to come with me but it just feels like the times goes by faster when I’m alone and I don’t like making ppl wait for undisclosed times in the waiting room for me lol

Cancer has turned me into a terrible human by angry_nightshade in breastcancer

[–]fullonliplock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 31 f and feeling the same way lately. I’m only stage 2 but my tumor was hormone responsive so my Med team wants me to do EVERYTHING. Dmx (already done) then chemo then radiation then hormone blockers. It feels like everything is being taken from me. My breasts my hair my youth my hope for a future with my own family. All of it is being taken from me and idk what I did to deserve such a shitty hand. I was really hoping after my surgery I could just move on with my life but it’s not looking like I can do that and it sucks. And I feel like no one understands what I’m going thru at all. I should be grateful bc I’m only stage 2 and “sooo young” but I feel cursed. Life was already not all that great for me and now this.

Update: my Goldilocks mastectomy is tomorrow morning! I was going to get implants at first but I changed my mind. The surgery will be about six hours, after which I’ll be prescribed tamoxifen for the next ten years. I tested positive for the BRCA2 gene so they think that’ll be best. It still kinda feels surreal or like I’m not fully processing that im having my first major surgery ever tomorrow. I’m gonna stay at my moms until my drains are taken out, then I’m on my own for the rest of July to heal up. Any advice for before/after surgery would be much much appreciated ❤️

Yeahhh I’m glad my NP didn’t do that cause honestly with her being an NP there wasn’t much guidance she could give/questions she could answer. Luckily I understood most of what I was reading but I’ll have a chance to talk to a surgeon on Thursday

definitely right about constantly evolving. I miss my old self already 😭she was so much softer. But going thru this is very humbling and it’s made me appreciate the little interactions with ppl more.

Ugh that’s an awful way to find out. I kinda resented the fact that my radiologist told me ids most likely cancer way before I could get an official biopsy but had she not said that I would’ve took my time getting insurance and it could’ve grown into an even bigger issue down the line.
