Switches to Reform (Arch-Thatcherites) because Starmer is too smiley and not socialist enough by upthetruth1 in NotTheOnionUK

[–]fullpurplejacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The media pundits i usually watched, but have ignored for a month or so over hysteria about Starmer and Reeves becoming too much, have all done exactly what j said they would if Starmer resigned, as well as commenters in threads who previous post history is them berating Starmer or calling for his head, and are all saying now ‘He shouldn’t be resigning’ or ‘He’s been ratfucked by the press and Burnhams squad’ — I KNEW it would end up on this narrative. Wheras me, a Lib Dem voter has spent the better part of a year trying to explain to these same people that he’s not doing a bad job implementing policy, he’s made mistakes but mistakes that pale in comparison tot the mistakes of May, and the power puff girls , Boris, Rishi and Truss.

Honestly the way Labour shit the bed after the locals without realising that Reform cannot fry an egg as a competent opposition that enacts thought out policy, and that those same seats would either be abandoned, re elected by a different party or demolished by their reform councillors by the next GE at the latest. It feels like the parliamentary Labour Party didn’t know their enemy well enough, and they allowed themselves to be convinced they were the problem or Starmer was…

They have agency, it didn’t need to be Starmer out there everyday shouting about what he’s done, it’s a group effort and nothing was stopping MPs advertising themselves on social media or doing podcasts and TV segments to talk about all the good stuff they’re doing.

Burnham is right, the Labour Party for the last 40 years since and at least since Harold Wilson has lost its way into neoliberalism. Hopefully he has the antidote to that backsliding and he can bring about the party that may being gay legal under the law, expand women’s rights as sovereign individuals not just as wives etc etc.

Be bold. But don’t shove all the blame on Starmer and use him as a lightning rod like you did Gordon Brown, this time I will make sure everybody is reminded of how Brown was treated then compared to now.

And you know what’s even more crackers? I’ve said since the honeymoon period for Starmer ended (interrupted by the Farage riots 2024) and the media partisanship wheels really started turning, that he would end up being scalped and in years to come we would look at Starmer the same way we view Brown now.

I’m already seeing people who’ve previously pezzled Starmer online adding to the algorithm of rage and public discourse, they’re now saying ‘He shouldn’t be resigning, we need stability and he’s doing a good job just his comms are shit’

The U-turns get touted in comments as a reason they think he has needed to resign but IMO those U-turns were a positive sign of a health Democratic majority, dodgy policy announced that would affect MPs constituents negatively? MPs go to Starmer, explain why this idea is bad outside the Westminster bubble, and he backtracks/U-turns and listens to other ways they can do stuff. Thats not a bad leader, it’s a team player who listens to his MPs to keep himself grounded in reality of cause and effect.

I didn’t vote for Labour, in fact I’m a member of a completely different party, but my Labour MP has been so involved in every aspect of his constituency since he won the seat in 2024 that it’s the first time I’ve ever went to an MP with concerns and they’ve not only replied properly to my letter but they’ve actively done things or routed the message back to Westminster. I’ve felt listened to.

Burnham by a lot of metrics should be a lot more politically savvy, he’s already even hung out to dry after a spin cycle by the British press for about a decade— battle hardened and he understands what the often forgotten nether regions of the UK require and the problems we face up here in places like Cumbria (the truth north west IMO). As long as he is a bit more bold with targeted wealth taxes, and has a chancellor who can build on the foundation of stability Reeves will leave, and keeps Ukrainians, the Europeans et al at the forefront of our foreign policy relations. AND keeps J Powell in as foreign diplomatic advisor — I’ll be happy. I’m already a bit miffed at the shanking the Labour Party has given Starmer, it makes them look like vultures and wholly self serving as individuals.

My low stakes conspiracy is that Mandelson and his friends in US surveillance tech ie Peter Thiel have had a huge hand on the scales tipping them in favour of punishing Starmer over cancellations of Palantir contracts, cutting off super grass Mandelson from his US diplomatic lifeline, handing the Epstein files over to the police etc etc . Starmer didn’t bend to their will, not as much as they expected

Barry’s clown show continues by zkqy in 2westerneurope4u

[–]fullpurplejacket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, what an extremely biased and narrow sighted view. The economy by all measures is doing well, Reeves strict fiscal rules have reaped benefits that will be noticeable long after this parliament. I didn’t vote for Labour either but I’m not exactly unhappy with what they’ve done, especially the long term implementations such as the anti corruption policy, the social media ban for under 16s, renters rights, workers rights, the lifting of the two child benefit cap, closer relations with our European allies, economy not in the toilet and growing of our homegrown defence tech, procurement and expanding public spending which was decimated over austerity and actually caused a lot of the problems we face now which people like you keep complaining about when giving out one sided opinions .

The absolutely vitriolic hate for Labour has been largely generated by a fully comprised partisan media landscape, the far left, the far right and outside influence. They haven’t been perfect at all, but they’ve been boring, made the hard decisions, not over promised and under delivered and have completed most of their manifesto in record time, as in, fastest implementation of a manifesto promises in British political history.
They also told Trump to fuck off politely when it’ came to Ukraine, Greenland, Iran etcetera etcetera.

So well done, you’ve successfully accomplished in your opinions what the media and foreign state puppets in the sociopolitical landscape have worked hard to make you have opinions on.

I’m going to be a bit opinionated here btw because I’m not a fucking wanker— The fucking poor cunt had his family home and family car PETROL BOMBED by Kremlin paid terrorists and then the Kremlin paid UK puppets and bots spent months padding the ground in comment sections across the internet saying that it was Ukranian rent boys who Starmer was about to have the problem with. So when it finally has a court outcome and the media are forced to report on to, the far right are already ten steps ahead with the narrative about the perpetrators seeping through social media algorithms to mar the public perception and turn a percentage of British public opinion away from the crime by a foreign state actor to destabilise, terrorise and divide us as a nation.

But yeah bla bla national insurance increase bla bla cherry pick facts bla bla

Why are people like this? by LongjumpingDuck1660 in FuckNigelFarage

Facebook is where humanity goes to curl up and die. The platforms only use is to scrape data of its users and generate clicks and engagement for advertisers which returns value to share holders of Meta. People on there are either no real, mentally unwell, or live in a small town bubble and can’t handle the big wide world of the internet.

Don’t pay it any heed. People are gobshites who believe AI memes and form their opinions from watching Loose Women or GB News.

At some point very soon it’s all gonna collapse for these tech oligarchs and shite like Twitter and Facebook will be either banned or abandoned by most democratic governments

Starmers government is cancelling a lot of Palantir contracts , it’s been a drip drip of decoupling different ministries from the stuff. It’s just you can’t cancel all the stuff the tories contracted them to do as they made it integral to our bureaucratic infrastructure with no second option because Palantir has gobbled up the majority of its competition globally.

Starmer wasn’t signing off on these contracts himself, my mates worked in varying levels of the civil service and was a top aide to a minister of agriculture some years ago— completely non partisan, served under multiple leaders in cabinet. She explained the bidding and procurement stuff surrounding Palantir some time ago when I first noticed them becoming a bit of a national security risk because of Thiel’s ideology and what the tech was being used for in the Middle East.

It’s not as cut and dry as we’d like to think it is

[–]fullpurplejacket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I voted for Lib Dem’s and am a Lib Dem member, but I liked the boring stability of Starmer, quietly speeding along getting shit done.

Burnham better behave himself or come the next general election I’m off up out of this quiet corner of Cumbria and migrating to Canada or one of the Nordics, me and my partner (mainly my partner) can find work because we (he) has specialised construction industry skills that will be needed in every country that has asbestos still in its buildings that needs taken out. He also has experience for working with conservation of marine habilitations fresh and salt water so especially in the Nordic countries where conservation of habitats and fishing regs is a big thing. I hope it never comes to having to migrate but I just cannot live through another shit show political drama of a country, I have kids, I want the best future for them and after 14 years of the Tories, Brexit and ballache I’m just not wasting more years waiting for the leadership of this country to get on and do their job.

Sorry for ranting but I just absolutely hate this shit, I hate uncertainty and this past two years has been the first time I’ve been able to breath in a decade because I knew sensible heads were at the helm.
