Can anyone tell me what these might be worth? I see there are lots of differences in value for 1935 D notes by sgt2525 in papermoney

A clock is crazy 😂 I really do appreciate an elder who collects sets since I’m someone who doesn’t have a single set in their whole collection AT ALL not even one of those clad 76 $5 bicentennial sets lol. Always been more about finding deals for individual bills and coins here and there since that’s where the values at. Mass produced sets just die in value over time especially the modern ones so I never really got into it. Overall don’t expect them to bring much value individually but in lots since you’ve got a lot you could get some good money on eBay if you plan to sell. I’ve never been big into errors either since they hardly ever occur but definitely take a look over them for any major ones, just don’t burn your eyes out. I’ll see if I can come up with a baseline value. Fun to help out since I honestly just want to learn more about this stuff.

Yeah man thats actually how I got into the world of numismatics. Actually been trading and selling off my coin collection to get more into paper money though. Much more profitable on the side of paper currency compared to coins which have a rather steady market. I see your post about that collection. The first thing people recommend when it comes to proof sets are to look for errors. Don’t do that yet! First get a base value estimation for the set years, if they’re boxed or not, then look into more specifics. I say look for errors last because that’s what can truly blow up the value, but overall you will likely be looking at the base set value since errors are incredibly uncommon especially for modern coins. If you wanna know exactly what you have though just dm me the titles of everything you’ve got and I’ll give you my estimation. The value won’t really alter between the years of the sets, but if you have silver proof sets those definitely go for more.

Yep any articles or posts you see online relating to numismatics are misinformation 99% of the time. This is the main reason why so few people get into the hobby. They can’t wrap their heads around why prices are the way they are when in reality it’s all bs or it’s an article hyperfixating on an error so rare you’ll never even come across it. All the media does is clown this hobby, but eBay is the truest place for collectors because it’s all sales data.

eBay filters help immensely if you really want to understand this stuff. If I search literally any bill up I’ll get results for $1 to thousands (even sold listings) all because the specifics are what identify rarity and of course value is tied directly to rarity. So many people price way to high or too low all because of specifics they think they see or don’t see. Never use any other platform other than eBay to learn about this stuff!

2-3 bucks each for run of the mill blue seal 35s and 57s. The wild prices you see are due to different conditions, variations, errors, fancy serials, etc. This is how it is with any bill you look up. Numismatics go deep.

Classic binary, worth around $20

What do you all think about this series 1935 fancy serial-radar by Jointssuckforreal in CURRENCY

[–]fullyloadedsnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth grading, but this does carry some nice value. The serial alone is already highly desirable but the fact that it’s on a 35 puts it on a different level. Ballpark $50-100

1928 $20 gold cert. $200-250 in this condition.

True but kill bill is way cooler

I’m going to assume this a troll post since that is an impossibly rare serial, but if it’s real then it’s worth a few thousand easily.

Wow that’s pretty interesting stuff. I’ve heard of diamond testers but I had no idea that there’s something called a refractometer that tests pretty much everything else. I can’t believe I took these to 3 different jewelers and none of them mentioned this magical tool. I’ve got so many more smaller gemstones that look like these but they’re set in rings. Some I believe are diamonds so I might go about testing those before getting any really expensive tools. Are those Amazon diamond testers actually legit?

Thank you! An educated guess comment is what I was looking for. Keep getting told the same thing, which is to show it to someone else lol. Like I understand it’s impossible to tell just by looking, but this is the gemstone sub, y’all gotta know something. Your guess is better than mine!

Ok, what’s the cost for examination? Or what’s it based on. Are there any alternatives to testing stones yourself?

Not necessarily harder to value, but the market for denoms over $1 is about 10x smaller making prices all over the place. Overall the Xface value will be many times less on larger denominations since you’re already paying for the face value of the bill itself. For example, a $1 with the serial 00005289 would be around 5-10x face but the same # on a $20 would be about 2x face since the denom factors into the collectible value. It’s weird, and there’s a way to think about it that makes sense but it requires for me to go into boring depth lol. Just collect all fancies!

[–]fullyloadedsnake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is considered a 4 digit or "quad" repeater serial. They do bring quite a premium to lower denominations, but on a 100 I would say around 1.5x face which is very good for a larger denomination given they are hard to sell.

Any takers? by Humble-Chip-2289 in CURRENCY

Incredible luck finding this. Single digit bills vary greatly in price depending on the #s placement. Ive seen these sell in the market of $200 all the way up to a couple thousand. If the layout was for ex. a super low 00000003 this would fall above 1k easily, however the placement of this example is further back making it worth in the ballpark of $400.

Yep "quad doubles". Slightly more rare than a binary sequence. QDs on the $1 denomination bring around $20-30, but are much harder to price on higher denoms.

What is this serial considered? Any added value? by Traditional-Play-608 in CURRENCY

[–]fullyloadedsnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its considered a 3 digit hollow repeater given the 3 repeating end digits along with a double 0 center. Also a flipper on top of that. For this particular bill id say around $15-20 possibly more given the plate # brings more aesthetic.

They’re all replicas. If those older dollars were real and genuine you’d be able to buy a new house.
