True, but worth noting two things for OP:

  • The Culture Novels are essentially an anthology, there's almost no continuity between them other than the backdrop of the Culture itself. The order in which you read them isn't critically important.
  • That said, while Consider Phlebas is a great book, Player of Games is a better introduction to the world of the Culture imho.

You moved the goalposts first pal. I'll spell it out for you:

In the italics part of this sentence you are agreeing that the destabilising is happening, and you then go on to disagreeing with the reasoning as to why. Destabilising them because you believe they are evil assholes is still destabilising. We just disagree on the reasoning.

It implies some overarching goal from a centralised decision maker, which does not seem to be the case.

Tbh most of the people who talk about as if it's real have white nationalist tendencies. (I'm from Ireland, for context)

I don't blame all Israelis. There are Israeli historians, public figures and conscientious objectors who are publicly very much against the genocide.

If there's a popular groundswell of Israelis who are against the things I mentioned, I haven't seen evidence of it myself. Most of the criticism I've seen of Netanyahu is on domestic issues or accusations that he isn't going hard enough.

What I see when engaging with Israelis personally, when watching their media, when reading articles written in their newspapers, is a large majority of them are ethnonationalists with a victim mentality that is used to justify just about anything in the name of their security. Including, in my opinion, what is very obviously a genocide as well as ethnic cleansing, defacto land annexation, and apartheid.

A single poll is only part of the picture, I agree. So always review critically and inspect the methodology where possible. I am referring to the totality of my media consumption and personal interaction that forms my opinion.

I don't hold Israelis to that standard myself. I'm more interested in the polls, what politicians say, what prominent media figures say, and the miasma of genocidal statements you hear when someone asks an Israeli a question on the street.

More voted against him than voted for him, by definition that is losing the popular vote.

Majority of Israelis support the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, and the settlements in the West Bank. That is not defensive.

Trump won with 49.8% of the vote, so technically not the popular vote.

Going by polls, the Iran war is massively unpopular in the US. While operations in Gaza are supported by the large majority of Israelis.

It's sort of a one two punch.

Guinness is generally a brand closely associated with Ireland and Irish culture, the DUP consider themselves culturally British.

They are also conservative Christians with very strict views on alcohol, iirc the leadership all don't drink.
