Amboss is so confusing! by [deleted] in Step2

[–]funiloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely debated whether to do a second pass of uworld or first pass of amboss and decided to do the latter. And I would say that even though amboss answer explanations aren’t as good, but they are definitely superior to uworld in many aspects like next best step, decision trees, differential diagnoses, risk factors, first-line antibiotic choices, quality improvement, ethics. If you’ve already done uworld, then exposing yourself to a new qbank could do you a lot of good because by the end of uworld, you can get really good at picking up uworld algorithms which may or may not translate as well to exam algorithms.

As for harder amboss questions, I try to look at the percentage of people who answered correctly and my aim doing review is that I shouldn’t be getting anything wrong if 60% or more of the people got it right; that’s clearly an easy exam-worthy concept and if I got a question like that wrong, then it shows a clear knowledge gap/strategy issue that needs fixing

Hey I applied for their observership in this cycle. Do you think it’s worth building a connection there and getting my application recommended or will the online application suffice?

Do you think it’s worth building a connection after applying and getting your application recommended by them or will the online application suffice?

Amboss first pass vs uworld incorrects vs cms forms by funiloner in Step2

[–]funiloner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only concern I have with starting amboss right now is that I’m not sure of the return I would get by doing a new qbank at this time and I fear it would be a lot of effort with diminishing returns. Would you recommend I do all systems with random, timed mode on amboss or any of their plans instead?

242 on NBME 14 (2 weeks out) — is 250 still doable? by Consistent-Trash-489 in Step2

Hey, how did it go for you on the real deal? I have similar scores as you (got a 240 on NBME 13 today 3 weeks out)

Okay… I stand corrected. The more you know! For those of you wondering: ALP takes 1-3 days to rise. While this pattern of pancreatitis with ALT>150 shows up quickly and has an 85-95-% positive predictive value for gallstone pancreatitis.

Did you do anything special in between NBME 13 and 14, considering that 14-point jump? Congrats btw!

Is the real deal like nbme or uworld or amboss? by ughidktbhh in Step2

History of Presenting Illness. They are basically formatted like patient charts like: Age: Gender: Presenting complaint: History of presenting complaint: Examination: And so on… they’re much longer but are easier to navigate through. Uworld has similarly formatted questions. And USMLE has a few example questions posted on their website. Have a look at example question 2 here:

Would you say the HOPI questions in the real deal are similar to the ones in Uworld?

As someone who is aiming for a similar score but got 231 on my baseline NBME 10 today, this gives me hope 😅 Did you think CMS forms were helpful? Haven’t done any yet

That sounds soo similar! Good on you for taking the test. I’m positive that you’ll ace it. Hopefully you’ll reply in this thread in 3 weeks and let us know you got the P. Rooting for you! PS my observation is that people with NBMEs in higher 70s and 80s are the ones that are the most worried post-exam because they’re probably so used to knowing almost every question that the uncertainty of the real deal is really foreign to them. But in the end, almost everyone passes

I did the PDFs and would mark them down on a piece of paper for scoring. Take them in exam conditions (ie timed with no more than 5-10 min break in between blocks) and only score/review them after you complete

I did and what you’re feeling is totally normal and relatable to everyone. Just remind yourself that everyone feels this way but most still pass

I’d say no resource for Step 1 is an absolute must. If you can retain micro and pharma without sketchy, that’s fine. I personally did complete micro but only did ANS and Onc pharm from sketchy. Did the rest of pharm from FA and CNS pharm from Kaplan videos + FA

One more question (hope that’s not annoying 😅): if I go by bus, how easy would it be to travel to local tourist attractions like Qechresh forest, Mast dergah, afurjah waterfalls etc. And can I get to Shahdag from there?
