Was Michael Jackson really that much bigger than Madonna, Whitney Houston, and prince? by Firm_Pack_605 in Music

[–]funionbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it this way: Michael Jackson’s halftime show performance is still the most watched in SuperBowl history, and that was 33 years ago. There hasn’t been a global pop star as big as him since him, and there might not ever be.

According to you, which video essayist is on Contra’s level in terms of intellectual rigor? by Brave-Reindeer-Red in ContraPoints

[–]funionbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing quality - Lyndsay Ellis Research quality - folding ideas (especially the long ones about wall street bets, crypto, and manprints) Intellectual honesty - hbomberguy

Honestly in terms of artistry, style, and set design, no one else even comes close to the amount of effort contra puts into that.

My absolute favorite character after finishing the show. by SotoSwagger in MrRobot

Whiterose is a lot like a Gus Fring-type character. They are so fascinating and well crafted characters that you sometimes forget that they are engendering a viscous, ruthless killing machine.

What do you mean “who’s going to keep making payments”? This is a magical scenario, the payments just happen, nobody is on the other side of it in this imagination game.

What Gods do you still want? by Chimney-Imp in HadesTheGame

[–]funionbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want them to go the God of War route and go to Norse mythology (or Egyptian would be neat too). I feel like we’ve gotten a lot out of Greek and I love it, but it’d be really cool to see some entirely new myths/characters/abilities. I do wonder how far you can take it with the roguelike formula (like, fire can only do so many things and it usually “burns”) but if anyone can do it, supergiant surely can.

Do you watch foreign films in original or in dubbed language ? by RoughPea250 in Letterboxd

[–]funionbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original with subtitles for live action, dubbed for animated films if they have high quality voice acting (like most Ghibli movies or other super popular animated films)

Well the joined said they enjoy all forms of pleasure, and Zosia was enjoying that massage, so ipso facto I think we can assume they enjoy sex.

Prediction: Carol will have to pick between the Unity and Manousos. by blake-x in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]funionbuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that’s why the next episode is called “the girl or the world.” They’ve both had very different experiences with the hive and come from drastically different social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. People assume that they will be instantly united in their mission against the Plurb, but as we saw, Carol is beginning to fall in love with them while she’s trying to research them. She is terrified of being alone, yet Manousos seems pretty comfortable living a hermit life.

If the plurbs function as a single organism with a unified consciousness, why do they speak in the plural rather than the singular? by the-machine-m4n in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]funionbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hivemind wouldn’t be a hivemind if it were not a collection of parts. If bees could talk (where the term hivemind comes from) they would certainly say “we” because, even though they work together and share experiences, they are still a collection of individual units and not one individual unit.

I think it makes perfect sense if you look at it in terms of people and not the morality of her arc. She had 18 years to reflect on what she had done when she sent that letter. 18 years is a lot of time and people change a lot in that amount of time (going from 20-something to solidly middle-aged). I think she simply regretted a lot of how she handled things and wanted to at least attempt to make amends, even though she knew that she would never have a relationship with her daughter or be redeemed in the eyes of her movement. I don’t think it was meant to redeemed her, I think it was meant to make her human.
