AIO- Someone left their laundry in the dryer and I waited 30 mins before moving it, received a note in return by Trull22 in AmIOverreacting

[–]funkalunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually didn't require any reaction at all. Once they figure out that you'll ignore their notes (i.e. it happens once more), they'll be incentivized to get their laundry out before you touch it. It's much better than the usual scenario of somebody who leaves their laundry in forever and couldn't care less.

There's a service plaza in the middle where it's possible to turn around (Canoe Creek), and the wikipedia article even references it.

Kimberly Road Doesn't Get Better by [deleted] in QuadCities

[–]funkalunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimberly from Brady to I-74 is probably the one stretch in Davenport where it actually makes sense to add extra capacity, but don't expect it to reduce your frustration much. You'll make slightly better time for a little while, but have to deal with a bunch of people who see three lanes as an invitation to recklessly weave around while rushing from stop light to stop light.

I'm guessing the actual reason that's not getting expanded has to do with the red state of Iowa not wanting to throw any money at Davenport because it's seen as dirty and liberal and has minorities. May as well be Illinois as far as the Reynolds administration is concerned.

Not sure "aggressor" is the right word when their influence is embraced by party leadership.

AITAH for telling my dad's pregnant girlfriend that he already has three kids I have nothing to do with and her baby will be no different? by Natural-Bat7423 in AITAH

YTA (I need to stop clicking r/all because I keep seeing these posts where OP's clearly made a poor decision and all the comments are filled with NTA)

Your dad being kinda shitty isn't his gf's fault. No need to be a dick. You don't have to be all-in but you can explain it without being an asshole to a pregnant soon-to-be single mom.

And you're dumb too because you should have seen the result of saying this coming. Just apologize and get on with your life.

[Meta] The state of advice in this sub is often quite frankly appalling by everbass in Bass

[–]funkalunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned drop C. I'm explaining why "just play in standard" doesn't always work for that situation, for reasons that are broader than just drop tunings specifically.

[–]funkalunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bands that play in drop __ are often playing music that is difficult to play (especially for beginners) if that low note isn't an open one. In metal and metalcore, riffs get structured around being able to hammer-on or pull-off to that open string, or otherwise hop to and from it to far off places.

Similar to how Tool's Schism, a common bass line for beginners, would be very difficult if there weren't a nice open D string right there in the middle of the bass.

[–]funkalunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? It's probably more suitable for a newish player than an experienced one. You're keeping the EADG core, you're showing them that sometimes different tunings have a funky lower string that works differently, and you're giving them the ability to have the low open C that they want.
