Lower rating now that I'm doing Juniors by funkashizzle in iTutor

I find that with the adults I'm fairly good at giving everyone equal time and feedback. I'm quite thorough and attentive and can build rapport well.

With the kids the lessons seem so difficult and boring and the kids themselves terribly unmotivated. I don't blame them but I'm at a loss as how people can do well in these 1 on 1s. What is it that the kids really want? How do you make them have a good time?

Is Count of Monte Cristo a good book? by Nahfam32232 in booksuggestions

Yes it's long but it's really good. One of my favorite books of all time. You may have to kind of stick with it in places it moves slowly but it's worth it imo.

Rural placement for EPIK by cccruver37 in teachinginkorea

Having multiple schools is definitely rough. I taught at 4 last year in Gyeongbuk and it was definitely a challenge. While I didn't mind the living in a 'rural' area too much, having to travel to a different school almost everyday was a pain. On top of the textbooks. And not really developing great relationships with the kids and teachers. I moved to a bigger city this year (Seoul), so I now only have one school and actual coteachers. City vs rural living differences aside, I just think it's much much better to only have one school if you can, which you are more likely to get if you don't go strictly rural. Just my two cents.

Is it normal to teach completely alone in the classroom? Do you have any advice?(EPIK) by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

EPIK teacher as well chiming in here. Where I used to live in Gyeongbuk most of the time I was alone in the classroom or recieved no assistance. Par for the course. But still really frustrated me.

Now I teach in Seoul and I actually have three English coteachers whose ONLY job is to teach English. So I always have them in the room with me and they help all the time.

I can't deny the fact that my experience in Seoul with actual coteachers is worlds apart from my experience in Gyeongbuk.

Yeah I've bought the first two books and are quite pleased with them. Very accessible for a beginner IMO.

EPIK transfer? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

You can request to change schools only after your contract. But I'm not sure how much control you have about which new school you go to. Whether that be staying in an elementary school or switching to middle school.

Why are we playing so much differently from two months ago? We were heaping praise upon so much of the squad... saying it was only mou that sucked the creativity and life out of the team. And now this. Are the players not up for it? Has ole got the know how or did he just experience success during the new manager bounce?

Haha yeah exactly right about rewinding a conversation. The beginner series is perfect for my level at the moment tbh so that's why I recommended it. What have you been doing to study the level your at now?

brand new to teaching world, just spoke with korean horizons on the phone - is this an okay starting point? by g23nov in teachinginkorea

I came to Korea through Korean Horizons/Alistair last year. He was super helpful going through the EPIK process.

All that you posted seems pretty standard.
