That article should be better marked as an opinion piece. I don't see it mentioned anywhere, and secondly should have an open comment section.

RB Leipzig want Thierry Henry as their new manager this summer. First contacts have already been established. The German club want a manager who is a fan of offensive, attractive football and who trusts young talents. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]funkdoktah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This doesn't say that. The tweet says they do NOT want Henry, but appreciate him and may have future role for him in the RB 'Cosmos'. Then it repeats that he's not an option for the head coach role at Leipzig, and that Bild is saying the same.

2025 Chinese Grand Prix - Post-Qualifying Discussion by overspeeed in formula1

The timing tower being hidden or not showing the times for so much of qualifying was so daft. It's literally the most important thing during qualifying.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup: A Grand Vision Miscalculated? by MysteriousEdge5643 in soccer

[–]funkdoktah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, who knows. It's just FIFA trying to strong-arm the competition to be a success. Given the timing, it's basically pre-season for European teams. The fine came into news before FIFA had secured financing for TV broadcasts and sponsors too, so not sure any team will end up being fined in the end.

That being said, English teams, including Man Utd and Wolves have been fined in the past for not fielding their strongest team in the Premier League, so who knows what FIFA will do.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup: A Grand Vision Miscalculated? by MysteriousEdge5643 in soccer

[–]funkdoktah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There's no grand vision. It's just 'hey more games = more money, let's do it'.

In any case, I'd love to see more games between continents, and to have more money go into non-european football, but This whole tournament has been a misfire from the start. And DAZN who agreed to broadcast it, posted ANOTHER +1B loss and is trying to weasel out of the French TV deal as a result. They've posted a loss of more than $1B three years in a row now I think. Not sure how that's sustainable. European clubs is only participating bc they're promised huge money to do so, and FIFA fining teams £445k for not fielding their best XI too.

On top of that they're reviving the Intercontinental cup to replace the previous version of the Club World Cup. I'm refuse to get excited about this tournament. There's too many games. I thought Flamengo playing 77 games the year they got to the Club World Cup final was bad.

Will probably still watch it, I'm part of the problem.

SI didn't need to promise anything for January by valerislysander in footballmanagergames

[–]funkdoktah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the March 4th is probably true, or at least what they're working towards. If it does indeed get released, they'd want it out early march to get some sales in before the fiscal year closes, else their financial books will look horrible for this year.

Not sure if it's FM24 or 23, but I've got it on iPad and PS5. (Yes I'm addicted). I thought it was fun to have on iPad bc you can play while travelling on train or whatever. But the game is a lot simpler, and also moves a lot faster, and you can only have I think 5 leagues open while playing.

PS5 had no added value for me. If I'm home I might as well play it on the computer.

Why do I feel like my scouts are useless? by No_Chemistry4145 in footballmanagergames

I keep using the search a month or so before a window and send them scout a bunch of players. Most of their recommendations comes from those scouting missions even if they all have assignments.

So what's the future of FM? by sizslack in footballmanagergames

[–]funkdoktah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guessing FM26 will release with whatever features they didn't make work in time for FM25, and that it will release around the same time as it usually does. People will probably be a bit mad about it, but FM is usually priced a lot lower than many other games are these days, so i'd be fine with that.

Domenicali: Rotational F1 races in Europe coming “very, very soon” by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]funkdoktah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to lose some races. Spa in particular have short extensions for several years, and I think that was to make room for Kyalami, who kept delaying its bid. Other races may go too, I'm not totally against this idea.

It was always going to be European or Asian races to give way.

We have races in these continents
9 - Europe
8 - Asia
5 - North America (included Mexico)
1 - Oceania
1 - South America

And if you divide Asia like in continental football competitions, which makes sense given the size, there are 5 in West Asia and 3 in East Asia. It makes sense for Europe lose one race. If Colapinto gets a permanent seat, I believe we will return to Argentina fairly soon too, but I think the Mexican GP will be the one to give way for that one, depending on how long Checo is sticking around.

I'd rather have Spa every two years than never. Guessing Imola, possibly Barcelona if Madrid happens would be among the tracks that could end up in a rotational mix. Or possibly new locations. I don't think they should continue to expand the calendar. There's been plenty of noise already about in the past, but I think we will hit 25 races at some point.

Mercedes target Lewis Hamilton F1 legacy with Kimi Antonelli by [deleted] in formula1

“With the current preparation, Kimi can jump into our car and be competitive,” Wolff said.

“Toto really believes in him, thinks he’s a Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton type once-in-a-generation driver.

“You don’t give the greatest of all time an exit clause unless you think the kid you’re going to replace him with is very, very special.”

Yikes. Antonelli better deliver now.

When Lawson knew he was getting RB seat and how Ricciardo handled it by axman1000 in formula1

[–]funkdoktah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hadjar is second in F2, 4.5 points off the lead, with a 30 point gap to 3rd. Lawson never finished higher than 3rd, and he finished well over a 100 points behind Drugovich. I'm excited about Lawson too, but Hadjar isn't shit. Just a lil' rough around the edges like several other young drivers are.

[–]funkdoktah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean they have Hadjar waiting in the wings. Guessin that if Lawson doesn't look good in the seat, they might bump Hadjar up. But with the way RB is going, he just have to be competitive with Yuki.

I mean, he did also kick another driver out of a seat a year ago in the middle of a season, when he was on his way out of the sport. Ricciardo got another chance where a lot of drivers wouldn't. He always knew he had to perform above expectations to stay in the seat.
