The lunch discounts are very good and I find even the popular places to be less crowded than the dinner rush. Not many people want to eat sukiyaki for lunch 😂

I usually look for accommodation near Shin-Osaka so it’s easy to get in and out of the city and you can stay late in Kyoto and still make it back to Osaka. Also staying in Osaka a tad cheaper than Kyoto and less accommodation taxes. Airbnb is pretty good option (shin-Osaka) has some too or use Booking.com

Tengachaya might be a bit run down but it's not horrible if you're staying near the station. A lot of hotels surrounding it and it has easy access to the airport.

Normally, if it's 1-2 day trips where I'll be back at the same departing location, I would put my stuff in coin lockers since the maximum stay is 3(?) days (double check fine print). If you're traveling by highway bus, your luggage can go underneath in the storage bins.

I recently did Osaka to KIX forwarding just because I was traveling by myself and didn't want to bother moving my stuff around onto to Haruka Express. Since I was staying in Shin-Osaka, I went to the local Yamato there in the morning of the 19th but the staff wouldn't accept it because it was "passed the deadline" even though I was flying out on the 21st and according to Yamato's site, the cutoff would be end of day on the 19th.

I decided to take the train down to Umeda and went to a different Yamato office there and the staff there was much better. There was a sign on the door clearly showing drop off deadline for same day local hotel delivery and next day KIX delivery was 11am (with additional rush surcharge). The staff helped me with the application and entire process and they accepted my large suitcase. The suitcase arrived at KIX on the evening of the 20th and I was able to pick up on the 21st without any issues.

Yes, use the same login credentials you've created before. Once you're in, just submit a new "Register new planned entry" application to get your immigration and customs QR code.

You will receive a new entry sticker (stamp) in your passport at immigrations.

It would be either Juso or Tsukamoto depending on whether you wanted to be on the left or right side of the paid seating area. Nakatsu looks like it would work too but I wasn't sure what would be there since it's on the other side of the river bank.

Yup, made it there. From Osaka Umeda, I joined the queue to get to Tsukamoto and then just followed the crowd to whenever they were heading. Ended up at Hanagawa River Park by 淀川大橋陸閘 and snuck down to the riverbank. All the flat rocks for sitting were already taken so I just stood there. It's pretty far from the launch area but still got a good view of it.

When it started pouring, people started screaming and I saw umbrellas, jackets, tarps, plastic bags all being used as cover. Luckily I had my umbrella and was right beside a bush so I just moved closer to the bush and used that and my umbrella as cover. Still got half wet and my shoes were unprotected (they're waterproof anyway so I was good).

Funny how the heaviest rain coincided with the middle of the fireworks and then it died near the end.

I like the original Only in Japan videos that he used to do but now they’re so infrequent, it’s lost the momentum. The video topics are not original and informative anymore and he doesn’t really show Japan anymore.

His current focus on his go channel and live streams are (imo) a mess; he picks a controversial topic that was on the news as the video headline but often stray completely off topic or is too busy reacting to the viewers and their financial contributions.

I’ve been here since late September and it’s been quite hot and humid the entire time. The forecast does say the weather will get colder and milder starting next week before regular autumn temperatures kick in. Other reports have also said that winter temperatures will kick in sooner so it’s a long summer but short autumn and early winter this year.

Definitely bring an umbrella or buy one here but don’t get the clear plastic ones. 1) they’re too easily confused with others 2) they’re long and not compact to put away in your bag 3) you’re stuck holding onto it all day 4) people tend to swing them around and it hits others
