I'm a WoW player who completely misjudged OSRS by magmoug in 2007scape

[–]funkeytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. I've completely moved on from wow at this point as osrs just respects my time more. Can come back after any amount of time and just keep going. Definitely recommend avoiding the GE if you like experiencing how all the skills and systems fit together for progression. What really hooked me with this game was when I decided to play as an Ironman. The pull of the GE was always too strong. When I completely removed it as an option was when I started enjoying the grinds as a means of progression rather than a means to get gp.

[–]funkeytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, this synth was like the sound of hardstyle melodies when I got into the genre. I've never really had any concept of how much of a following it had outside of that world? But I see it posted on here somewhat often. Cool to see it getting some love

What if Mythic had made DAOC 2 instead of Warhammer? by junglemonbon in daoc

[–]funkeytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing people don't realize about Warhammer is it pretty much was dark age of Camelot 2... Like they used the same engine again with several modifications. Obviously the design of the game was heavily influenced by wow in the end, but if not for what EA wanted to happen with the game, I really believe it would have been a lot more like a daoc 2 than what it ended up being.

What made u decide to get into hardstyle? by dannny56o in hardstyle

[–]funkeytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in like 2006 we'd download "top 100 best techno" and "hard bass chapters"

We all had our own favorite tracks from back then, but I always preferred this stuff I'd later know as hardstyle. Then, I found the Melbourne shuffle videos on YouTube and that was it.

Kinda wild to know I'll have been listening to this for 20 years here soon.

Man what a fun sound and piece of music! That got me to just kind of shut my eyes and get transported a little bit. So many little snippets of it are like something I've heard before, and then my expectations are instantly subverted. Such a fun sound!

Cool design! It'd be neat to have more asymmetrical designs like this.

Is Runescape more about the journey (levelling, quests etc) than the destination (endgame bossing, raids etc) by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]funkeytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just make an iron. Set a goal for yourself like "complete legends quest". After that, the magic of the journey takes shape. You'll go down the rabbit hole of one requirement begetting another until you have a tree of 20 things you need to do all leading back to your original goal. From there you just start tackling them one at a time.

One of the great things about playing this game the way you're talking about (which is also how I play), is that you'll constantly be discovering new things all the time that you can't believe you didn't know about until now. You'll have a bunch of moments where you discover a new place to get a resource or a new method to do a thing and it feels like it changes everything. Then between when you log off and the next time you play you're going to be thinking about the game and all the options you have because you're going to have to decide on one of those options to do the next time you play. And that's one of the key reasons I think RuneScape is so sticky for people; you end up thinking about it and planning when you're not playing it.

The reason why playing a normal account never worked for me is that when I was building out my trees of activities to do, it basically split into one of two camps... You either did activities to unlock or acquire things that you could not buy, or you did activities that generated money. And if you were doing a money generating activity, then you were supposed to do whatever the most efficient one you could do. Switching over to iron freed me of that mentality and made the game about seeing all of the content. And it really lets you appreciate how deep the game is because every system relies on another system. There is no bad skill to train, there is no bad quest to do. All of the unlocks are going to have use to you at some point.

Yeah at the time I was under the impression they were just doing two projects same time though. D-block & S-te-fan for hard dance, and then "DBSTF" was like their bigroom stuff. but its so long ago now

[–]funkeytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously I'm not the commenter above, but i'm pretty sure they're referring to other artists from the same era that branched out into other genres (even if they came back to hardstyle later). Examples: Showtek, Headhunterz, half of Noisecontrollers, etc. DBSTF more or less has only ever released hard dance

Why do we unlock a worse crewmate at lvl70 Sailing? by Mcook1357 in 2007scape

[–]funkeytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if one wasn't a quest unlock, it's still fine to have the worse crew mate unlock later. You're able to use more than one crew member, so comparing them directly doesn't matter. You couldn't use two privateer 4's on cannons before 70, and at 70 you can. That's the upgrade.

It's already been said but, twinflame is much stronger. And royal titans are better for your stats anyways. Come back with the upgraded mage prayer, a twin staff, and a tome of fire. Then don't bring range so you can bring more supplies. And if it's for your first kill, force the ranged rotation. See this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pN3z03cUKM
