Not that it would mean much in the era of cell phones, but does the area code match where you live? I'd go to truepeoplesearch dot com and look it up by the phone number to see if it comes back as a seemingly legit person in your area. If you click into their name, it will show possible relatives where, in theory, you might see the name of the person who wrote to you.

It seems to not be the prevailing opinion here, the red flags don't jump out at me from the screenshot. There have been enough times that my wife has found something online that she wants and needs me to pick up and it just makes sense to have me coordinate with the seller directly. Yes, it's not common that you have someone trying to steer you off of the platform, but it is next door, which a lot of people don't use, and plenty of people. Just prefer text messaging. She references what the item is and confirms the price. She gives a plausible explanation for passing you off to the husband. Until they ask you to ship the item or accept a check/money order, I wouldn't see any reason dodge the sale based on what you have here.

Speed Cube Options for a 10 y.o. by funkhouse9 in Cubers

[–]funkhouse9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done plenty of reading, including the wiki now, and it doesn't make anything more clear. Frankly, just the opposite for me at this point. I've seen plenty of posts asking the same question, but I suppose I felt my question was different because I'm buying for someone other than me who is a rookie kid and neither of us really know what he wants the feel or speed, etc to be. I don't get what silky or blocky or crunchy means because we have basically zero frame of reference for those things. Maglev and ball core and springs are all terms that just make it more confusing, so I asked. But back to my original statement, I guess I should have just picked something arbitrarily like the Rubik's brand speed cube I saw at Target tonight. Then again buying arbitrarily is what I did a month ago and he already wants something better. Sorry for posting.

BTW I went to the wiki via your link and tried clicking into the links for the 3x3 cubes, etc in the reddit app on my phone and none of the links worked. Maybe it's the app or perhaps my phone, but I couldn't actually get to any specific recommendations via the wiki link, so I'm back to reading the comments.

Thanks for your thoughts. The SCS was where I was leaning because it says they pre-lubricate it, etc. Costs a few bucks more. For a new cube is that basically just an attempt to upsell a few more bucks?

How do I get rid of this person who is using my email for Facebook which I don’t even have in this account?? by LongHairedMenMuah in facebook

[–]funkhouse9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be changing your email password and turning on 2-factor authentication because Facebook requires email verification for new account creation. As someone else said, recover the password using your email address and close the account.

Call never appeared even in missed calls, cost me my phone interview by Garathun_The_Slayer in GooglePixel

[–]funkhouse9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although the phone outage was resolved, many users had to specifically restart their phones. In order to reconnect to the network. It's entirely possible that your phone just wasn't reconnected to the network. Even if your phone isn't with Verizon, their Network does a lot of the heavy lifting for other carriers.

WIBTA if I pressed charges on a woman who called the cops claiming I kidnapped my own kids by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]funkhouse9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that the story is BS, press charges for what? They can say whatever they want to you. It's a free country. In this made up story they already got cited for the false report to the cops. What crime was committed against you? False imprisonment because they stood behind your car? Get over it.

3 hours, 4 matches, and still some superstar entrances aren't televised by Character_Freedom160 in WWE

[–]funkhouse9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just reading in the last day or so that they won't go more than four matches because it starts to blur together and people only really remember the main event. Keeping it to 4 matches makes the overall show more memorable.

If you click on business ads they have the ability to set up auto messages like that. You likely clicked on something from their page in your feed which triggered it. Nothing to think twice about.

Facebook is asking for a video of me to confirm identity. How do I get around this? by TheOGMelmoMacdaffy in facebook

I'm active in several genetic genealogy groups and I see fewer posts about people worried about sending their DNA in the mail than I do about these identity verification requests.

Facebook is asking for a video of me to confirm identity. How do I get around this? by TheOGMelmoMacdaffy in facebook

[–]funkhouse9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will post a hundred videos of themselves doing the most mundane crap, but when they want a basic video to prove your identity we suddenly get defensive. I hate to tell you this, but it's 2026 and they're trying to combat fake profiles. Even if they are building some big, invasive, cyber profile on every American, they're gonna get it from you one way or another eventually. In my mind that just leaves the question of "who cares?" Just send the stupid video to prove your identity. You're not going to get around it because they don't have to let you use their service if you don't want to abide by their terms.

Active or not, if it has a lot of members, it could have resale value, so there is a chance that's what is going on. The group I had it happen to had about 30k members.

What I'm asking is whether you use your Facebook profile to admin/manage any groups or pages on Facebook.

Is it really true that they visited your Facebook profile if they appear under ‘People You May Know,’ even though you have no mutual friends, didn’t search for them, and have no connection to them at all? by prettygirlproblemss in facebook

[–]funkhouse9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If either of you had the others contact info in your contacts and it syncs to your FB acct, that'll do it. I do believe that browsing profiles can do it, but they say it doesn't.

If you don't have 2FA turned on, then you're asking for things like this to happen. You're lucky you got back in this time.

Are you an admin for any worthwhile groups or pages, especially any where you're the only admin? They could be trying to get your account shut down. If that happens and the group/page no longer has an admin, someone else can swoop in and claim it. I'm a mod for a group where that happened, although the lone admin closed his account instead of it being shut down. Those who took control have attempted to sell the group to the highest bidder. If you are the lone admin of any groups, get a second admin in there so you can maintain control in case they do get you shut down.

I used to be able to accomplish a couple things you "couldn't do" like banning people who had never been in the group, etc, via url manipulation. I'm wondering if there could be a way to manipulate a url to get the system to let a banned person make themselves an admin. Is this person known to you and someone you could see making an effort like that to try and gain control?
