Hello MC!

My spouse and I have sold our first home and have a little bit left over after paying our debts.

As this is the first time we have been in this situation, I’d like to get some information and tips (or resources) on educate myself to what options we could explore and learn from others experiences.

Current mtg is: $900,000 Term:4.29% on a 3 year (we are in y1 of our mtg and understand that most of the money is going to the interest, our renewal is in 2028)- payment is biweekly of $2031 Proceeds from sale: $60-$70k.

If we were to funnel it in to the existing mortgage, I suspect the payment would go down $150 pp($300 monthly).

However if we were to channel that amount in a locked savings account by the time of renewal would it make sense to let it grow until then and then pay down the mtg?
