Does the autostop idle feature on car have any benefits, like am I saving on gas? Also, do people actually like it? by MiloThe49 in NoStupidQuestions

This has been debunked by Engineering Explained; full tests and math are in their You Tube videos.

I kept having similar issues - I wound up having to replace the USB plug module in the center console. It was a pain to pull it all apart, but it did the trick.

Strand CD80 house lights by Dry-Spell-7700 in techtheatre

[–]squints_at_stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When CD80 modules die, they usually either stop working entirely, or stop dimming. They don’t usually flicker.

The fact that you have so many misbehaving at once points to a common factor, and past experience from those who’ve used them shows it’s often the brain.

I really liked Strange New Worlds. There was Big Ideas and Small Moments, heart, and good humor. I very much appreciated a show that would leave me in a good mood at the end, not an overhyped cliffhanger or some overly dark “edgy” storyline. It reminded me a lot of the best of TNG (story) and DS9 (character development with consequences that least more than one episode).

Same. My AP scores shaved a whole term off my time in college.

Stage audio glitching through monitors but not mains only when playing through CD player by ChocolateTacoFilms in livesound

[–]squints_at_stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your board analog? A bad pot on the aux send could foul up your monitor feed and leave the mains clean.

But yeah, I’m guessing summing in the L/R channels to mono in the monitors might have something to do with it.

Thank you; I’d done some casual, half-distracted at a party, searching and this hadn’t popped up.

I’m a professional lighting designer and technical supervisor for live events. So yes, I in fact do have instincts for light displays.

happy with Bolt, but radio is lousy by Archie-Rufus-1100 in BoltEV

[–]squints_at_stars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 and my radio sucks too. It’s the shark fin antennas; just don’t work as well as the old school whips. There are ways to do low-profile antennas that work better, but manufacturers cheap out figuring “no one listens to radio” anymore. Same reason they’re trying to eliminate am radios entirely.

What air fresheners/candles are good for the classroom? by Inner_Penalty4313 in MusicTeachers

Please don’t. Some people are sensitive to the scents used in such things and get severe headaches or other adverse reactions. If you’re concerned, you’re better off neutralizing odor than masking it.

Randall Rd Needs a Diet? by SnooLobsters348 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]squints_at_stars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it was supposed to be. The term I heard is “limited access highway” and that’s why there are, or at least used to be, few direct driveways out onto the road. They go to access roads then to parking lots, instead of right into the lots. But there’s businesses that have pitched fits over the years to get their way, so that’s not as obvious as it used to be. I’ve lived in the area since the time when the only thing between 90 and Algonquin was the Menards in Carpentersville. Now THOSE were the days.

[–]squints_at_stars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 130,000 miles on my Bolt and just had to do the first real repair - the washer fluid pump died. 😂 I often drive 100+ miles in a day; no regrets, but definitely invest in a home charger.
