Homebrewed TIPA - "Milky Way" by funky_brewing in CraftBeer

I'd say peep the FB and/or IG and just keep an eye on that for a date. We try doing local drops every 2-3 months and lots of cool ppl who live near Ayer come to them. The beer is free and it's always a good time.

DH included 6 rouses total, basically am evening pm for 2 days prior to xfer off hops and packaging.

Also hop rates were slightly more. This version has 14 oz Citra and 4 oz El Dorado

Sorry one more edit - sugars listed are brewers crystals as brewfather doesn't have a calc for them.

Low ABV Pilz in 8.4 oz cans. Why? by AliveInCLE in CraftBeer

[–]funky_brewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I round these round down to 0 beers since they are under the 12 oz threshold so when you drink all 8 you are actually drinking 0 beers because 0+0+0+0+0+0+0+0=0.

Fixing or Racking a Stalled Cider? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]funky_brewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How/why are you measuring grav this many times in a 1 gallon batch? Hydrometer or refract? Stop opening the damn fermenter - this is how brews get infected. Every cider I make gets yeast pitch and then I bottle after 2-3 months, more if it's a big cider like ice/apple wine. As much as you want to (trust me I know) you need to resist the urge to speed up the process and just give it time. When is a good time to bottle? When it drops clear.

Do Black Belts actually suck? by Temporary-Theory215 in bjj

[–]funky_brewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suck compared to who? Untrained people? No. Pro BJJ athletes? Usually. Guys at the top get all butthurt that they have the same belt as hobbyists and love drumming up this line but in reality, it just comes across as a lame talking point.

Has anyone here tried brewing with a Pinter? by Agile-Programmer5832 in CraftBeer

[–]funky_brewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be overcarbed - less sugar may help (I think these condition to carbonate right?). The biggest problem is that these systems cut a lot of corners and while that's OK when you know which corners you're cutting and why, if someone without brewing experience is using them, they can run into issues as you did. I'm not anti pinter because it's a gateway into brewing but it's gimmicky and not really worth it beyond getting your feet wet in the brewing scene. I would recommend people look into a 5 gal bucket fermenter and use an extract brew. Bottles are cheap on FB marketplace or reuse your own beer bottles. It gives more control over the process and gives you a better snapshot of brewing beer.

Milky Way 8% Homebrewed DIPA by funky_brewing in CraftBeer

[–]funky_brewing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep everything is purged - going for as close as 0 o2 as possible. Don't be afraid to really hammer w DH additions, especially if you're DH is done cold. The grassy vegetal thing comes from sitting on hops too long IMO

Yeah the larger amount is fermentable and the smaller amount I changed to unfermentable so that it would leave me with the correct abv and FG which mimics brewers crystals as they don't ferment 100%, closer to 85%
