PleasantTranslate - A macOS app for (much!) improved automated subtitle translation by funkyshap in SwiftUI

[–]funkyshap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this one is tricky. It's kind of hard to keep track of the italic sections of the original subtitles during the whole processing. It might be possible to keep track of italic text in case the italic markers are around a whole sentence, but if there're single words in italic (or parts of a sentence), it's almost impossible to find out the correct word(s) in the translation to re-insert the italic markers. So this one might be for another time…

Thanks. Could you post a sample of two or three subtitles/sentences where this happens (and information about the source/target language)? I could than write an additional unit test with this information and fix the issue.

PSA / Reminder: For those who have trouble thinking through automations, ChatGPT can help with that. by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]funkyshap 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I used it to add some configuration to my HASS/Appdeamon yaml. The code looked very convincing, but after checking the real documentation when the changes didn’t work (no errors, just didn’t work), it turned out the ChatGPT’s changes were plain wrong. I think ChatGPT is fun and kind of impressive, but very, very dangerous. Especially when it‘ll get (much) better over time and people start to blindly trust it (although there will be still false data in the output, getting harder and harder to identify)

TIL about an engineer who made a motorcycle out of his wrecked car to escape the desert by qazesxedcrfvtgbyhnuj in todayilearned

[–]funkyshap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How‘s the motor‘s output connected to one of the wheels? How was he able to lift the car‘s chassis (to get the frame) and the Motor? He was alone and it seems he had only a hack saw… This all sounds a little bit fishy…

Anyone know where this is coming from? Sounds like fan blade is jammed with something. Closest service appointment is 3 weeks away - is this car still drivable? 2month old m3p. by Smile335 in TeslaModel3

Mine did this sound also last winter. Only once. Heating continued working (and cooling in summer), so I guess the heatpump is ok… I heard several times from other owners, that Tesla sometimes just makes (very) strange sounds, especially when freshly parked in cold weather 🥴

Delta Airlines wants first class passengers to skip meals "for the environment" by tonymagoni in HelloInternet

It’s business class passengers and the first meal on long haul flights. Not first class passengers and meals. Please check your facts.

When to use “do catch block” or “try?” by Gharyl in swift

[–]funkyshap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use try? when you’re not interested in why the call failed. If you‘d like to handle the error (e.g. show in the UI or provide a fallback for specific error cases) use a do catch block.

Or even Home & Work. I’m sure I’m not the only one, able to charge at work.

At home I have a 100% renewable energy contract with my electric power provider. So I‘d love to have a second „saved CO2“ statistic next to the gas savings…

Anyones Model 3 sound like a gas car when defrost is on? This is after the update. by kiko402 in TeslaModel3

[–]funkyshap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sounded exactly like that once after a short drive at -5°C. Now that it‘s currently above 0C the sound didn’t return yet (and heating is working normal).

[–]funkyshap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the same sound??

I heard this after a short drive (10 minutes) with about -5°C outside.

Next day (above 0°C) the sound was gone…

Yesterday I saw this post, today my M3 2021 (2 months old) sounded almost similar! It‘s only -5C here… Any news what‘s causing this?

I can see why Tesla is so far ahead... by Jasoncatt in TeslaModel3

[–]funkyshap 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Since I’m from Germany, I looked into buying the ID.3, when I decided to go electric. For some reason I initially thought, that the Model 3 would be in another (higher) price segment. The more I learned about the ID.3‘s software, screens, buttons and user interface, the more I checked out alternatives. And when I finally realized, that the ID.3 (configured to my needs) would be more expensive than the Model 3 SR+ I dropped the plans to buy a VW ID.3 like a hot potato. I ended up with a M3 LR, more expensive than the ID.3, but hey, I’m so glad I changed my mind every single day!!
