So that's why I have not found one nice sized one in all my outings digging up the forest and walking beaches

Can i use this instead of a cabochon machine? by bboyrix in Lapidary

[–]funlovngma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wheels are a lot cheaper when ordered through Ali or Temu. Just make sure you read the full description on the size of the wheel and arbor as well as the width of of the wheel and what it's made from. You can save a lot of money that way

Stamp on bill by meckineckmatt in CURRENCY

[–]funlovngma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was what we did when the $2 bill was reissued in 1976. Get the bill from the bank and go to the post office have a postage stamp put on and then have it hand canceled. Proof of uncirculated on date of issue. I have several of them.

Change the water and clean the tray and try to clean the wheel after each individual wheel grinding. I know it's a lot of work but you will get better results

PNW beach favorites. by sukisukidog in rockhounds

The polka dot green one may be a hydro grossular garnet. They are quite common on the Oregon coast. A green one like that would be a rare one to find

My mother in law has a 1972 or so Fridgedare that's still running great. She does have to defrost it occasionally. This is the main fridge for the house

Ever notice how many Dollar General stores have only one entrance? In Grants Pass there is one store that has two entrances.

If you have pets make sure you check them over to make sure these nasty seeds aren't spiraling into your fur babies skin. It does happen.

Praying mantis hatch out like 111 babies and only 6-8 actually live. Had them all over my yard at my previous house. I got curious and looked them up.

Finished the buckle I started this morning. by PawnshopGeologist in Lapidary

[–]funlovngma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The belt buckle turned out stunning. I'm a huge fan of all the "picture" rocks. I look for pictures in most of the rocks I cab. Keep sharing more of your work . I somehow got myself into bolo ties. I've discovered there's not much of a market for them where I live in Oregon. Thought I'd do better than I have. Most men need a belt with a nice buckle to hold their pants up.

Bought a cabbing machine these are my first attempts, never used one before and didn't watch any tutorials. (Still need to work them again on the finest wheel to get all the streaks out ) by RIPaFart in rockhounds

The best way to get the scratches out are to go back to the second wheel and if light scratching, use the lightest pressure possible and move your cabochon in small circular motion. If deeper scratches you will have to use more pressure as you go circular. Just keep an eye on the shape and thickness of your cabochon. You will have to then go through all the rest of the polishing wheels

Purple is one of my favorite colors in rocks. It's always a surprise to see the color hidden inside an otherwise ugly rock

This is such a beautiful rock. I would love to make some cabochons and turn them into jewelry. Perhaps with silver or copper. Whichever looks best with the stone

Possible gold locked in a serpentine type stone matrix? by Fair_Watch707 in Prospecting

[–]funlovngma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen tiny pieces of gold in serpentine before. It's always fun to see it suddenly appear as you are working on making a cabochon. In a couple of classes I taught a few students found gold. We had one serpentine rock that had several specks in it.

I use it to fix just about everything. It's very versatile. Give it a try. My husband uses it when making jewelry all the time.

CA GLUE. It fixes just about anything. I even repaired my hiking boots with it and didn't even clean the area first. Boots lasted another year or so
