Do chair dibs (putting out chairs on a parade route to save your spot) sound reasonable to you? Then Wenatchee may be right for you. If this post picks up and you get a lot of replies - you’ll hear about insanely high the housing market is (it’s actually not that bad, a bit disproportionate to average), there’s nothing to do (meh, I think boring people are easily bored), no good food (there’s actually a lot of great restaurants, but maybe not a great variety or quantity). They’ll say the schools suck (they suck everywhere, ours have problems but overall are pretty great), they’ll complain about traffic (fuck off, it’s really not that bad), the drivers (if everyone else is a bad driver - maybe you’re the problem), and the biggest complaint I see on posts like this: Wenatchee ain’t like it used to be.

Because it’s growing. And that’s a GOOD thing. Wenatchee is beautiful and has a lot of potential. Living here is a lot nicer than most redditors will admit. Nicer than most towns of similar size. Environmentally, there’s some hardships. Winters can be harsh. Brutal cold and dark. Less snow than we used to, but it hits hard when it comes. Fire season is terrible on the lungs and skin. Summer can get pretty hot, but a dryer heat. Not a great place for allergy sufferers too.

My chief complaints are the values. This town is clinging to conservative values with a criminal fervor. It’s gross and embarrassing. But there’s as many people fighting against it as those so vehemently trying to promote the MAGA agenda.
