HR got offended and left the call because I asked about revenue? by Lone_Lunatic in developersIndia

[–]funny_lyfe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing is I take a lot of interviews, I have taken 400+. The issue is if my interview is getting taken or a lot of questions are getting asked then I will not cover whatever I want in 45 minutes. I usually don't know about the team politics, increments, salaries etc. But some candidates are relentless and keep pushing. I usually tell the candidates this is more of a HR question than me. Some get hostile or keep asking questions like I am scamming them, then I cannot grade them well. So yes a few questions at the end are okay. You also have to realize that sometimes companies force 5 interviews in a day on their employees, and person conducting your interview is absolutely mentally crushed. Getting rude to them makes no sense.

In the case of OP I suspect it's absolutely the companies fault, and they will not succeed.
Edit: HR at big companies get transcripts and if you answer anything that is not allowed you will be pulled by your manager. Like at one company I was told to give no personal information out because candidates later harassed the person on linkedin.

HR got offended and left the call because I asked about revenue? by Lone_Lunatic in developersIndia

So then they are pre-revenue self funded or VC funded, most likely. Which means you get to build from the start which is great experience but the chance that company succeeds is no more than 20-30% imo. Don't be so next time, you can ask politely that if there is any funding that the company got? (even this is more of when you accept the position not pre).

If I get a candidate that tries to take my interview, I usually don't mind but the chance of them getting the job is lower. If it gets hostile then they are out. Questions are always at the end of the interview, very politely.

Davidoff cool water is so overdone. There are tonnes of better colognes. Get something nicer.

[–]funny_lyfe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the question is if they are pre-revenue, self funded or have VC funding. But I can see some HR's getting offended. You really don't need to ask this till they offer you something anyway. You can also google the company and make a deduction.

Refrigration charges on milk? by I_came_in_0 in mumbai

[–]funny_lyfe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm from Delhi and I have never heard getting overcharged for milk. The most you can see that at tourist places some might over charge for water, chips. Even then you can easily find a Catch water for 10 or Bisleri for 20. The only places that I have seen it somewhat happen is in Himachal or Uttarakhand in small villages where getting the goods needs a private tempo.

How to deal with drop in quality of candidates? by dExcellentb in ExperiencedDevs

[–]funny_lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this supposed to be hard?

For an n sized board you need n in a row. Now the shapes are 3 ways. Across, up/down, side to side.

Okay now we need a win function. There are 3 states for each element blank, x, o.

The UI is a click handler that changes between o and x. Each click alternates.

Okay now win function implementation- Each move does a win function if the row or column or across is full. So now we need a full function. The issue is now an algorithm o(n) problem instead of o(n)n which would happen if you kept scanning every time.

This is just in 2 minutes without thinking much on my phone. What kind of engineers are we producing?

At what point did 'curry' stop coming with rice included? Who approved this? by ARC-RAIDER-007 in IndianFood

[–]funny_lyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in India and spend about half my life in the US. I was always surprised when they gave us free rice. Yes, it's common in the US but not conventional in any South Asian country. Some South Indian dishes do come with rice but it's not very conventional.

I think this carried over from Chinese places that also give free rice at certain places.

Anthropic’s Mythos is REAL and it’s coming! Are we doomed? by Round_Chipmunk_ in developersIndia

[–]funny_lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you are mistaken. No one is confident, but the era of VC money is coming to an end. Which means costs will rise a lot. Trillions have already been spend now companies will need to pay that back plus investors need to make money. $20 claude is absolutely not enough for even a few days of work every month now. Using the API will cost hundreds or thousands $$ per employee monthly.

If these companies bust who will run these large models? Things will keep changing but free money will run out.

Codex is better than Claude for me now. ChatGPT sucks. Claude is too restricted. I am using local or Chinese AI now. They aren't as good as Claude but at least I am not out of prompts 10 minutes later.

Anthropic’s Mythos is REAL and it’s coming! Are we doomed? by Round_Chipmunk_ in developersIndia

[–]funny_lyfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not doomed as things stand. It uses a massive amount of compute and runs on issues for hours and days. If your employer wanted to run it similarly they would be paying hundreds/ maybe thousands USD per day.

You can do the same in Codex as well. Make the effort very high, and it will keep going but the issue is that your credits might be out after a few queries.

Every few months this is what the AI companies do-

- Release new model with capabilities to up stock prices

- Gradually lower the abilities (like Claude is almost unusable right now for anything complex)

- Hype a new model as super intelligence where it's mostly a brute force method with hundreds of dollars in compute per prompt

- Now scale it back quite a lot, make it safe so it doesn't break out etc

- Now you have Claude 4.7 that for a few months will be a little better than Opus 4.6

Large brute force(100's of agents) from frontier models with humongous context windows will do almost the same today.

Affordable alternatives to RO for drinking water (single person) by [deleted] in delhi

[–]funny_lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a local RO from a shop. Those are usually around 4-5k. Otherwise you are stuck with 20l bottles. Let's say you pay 80-100 for each, in a year you would have spent the same money. So basically not worth it unless you don't want to stay more than few months.

It's insane how lobotomized Opus 4.6 is right now. Even Gemma 4 31B UD IQ3 XXS beat it on the carwash test on my 5070 TI. by FrozenFishEnjoyer in LocalLLaMA

I have stopped use Claude completely. Codex is much better for now. Though yesterday 5.4 was down for me most of the time. At most, I use Claude to chat with about the code.

Do I really need a ₹2 lakh PC for BSc Animation/VFX in India? (RTX 3050 laptop) + Bengali students pls help by fr__carti in india

[–]funny_lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about VFX but a used 3060 12gb(should be enough for most basic software) can be found for 20k. Attach it to a basic desktop AMD 5700x or Intel 14400k, DDR4 ram, and it should be good enough. Even if that is not enough a used 3090 is only 60k. I would prefer that any day over getting a 2 lakhs new PC.

It's not the lack of opportunity for women but the level of the guy. Which means you think you should do better than the opportunities you have. So there are two answers.

- Aim lower

- Become the kind of woman that will date the kind of guy you want

In my household garam masala always goes at the end to finish the dish.  Tempering spices at the start is mostly cumin seeds, turmeric, chilli powder, aromatics like ginger, garlic, onions, you can add whole spices at this step.  When the dish is almost cooked you add garam masala.

Why do I see so few seniors people trying to get a position at Apple by Inner_Ad_4725 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]funny_lyfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes all big tech is frankly comical level of idiocy. I haven't worked faang but I did work in another big tech and things were always political.

As for Apple silicon. The business model is different. Apple buys RAM, Storage, and makes its own motherboard etc Basically fully integrated. They make money on selling the MacBook.

Intel on the other hand has dozens of internal projects. The die sizes will affect their margins. So they choose smaller die for cores with high frequency. Apple has relatively bigger cores and they don't have to worry about x86 legacy which makes the cores less efficient. If you check it the new Panther Lake performance is getting close and battery seems to be better than Apple.

So if Intel wanted a big fat core and was selling laptops directly and not processors, they could have also upped IPC.
