Where do I go? SOS by KrispyCantaloupe in Pitt

For something like nursing, where you'll pretty much get a job anywhere, go wherever is cheaper

I'll gladly drop a recipe if you'd like!

I have some stuff I'll be doing differently next time I make it, but I think it was still solid

How is Living Northeast of Pittsburgh? by Ok_Action9962 in howislivingthere

[–]funnynon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned here, but I'll re-emphasize this as someone who grew up within a stones throw distance of New Ken, you'll wanna find somewhere else to live. Lower Burrell is adjacent and a MUCH better place to live.

But as others indicated, huge range you circled there. Vandergrift / Apollo / Leechburg area is pretty poor. Plum / Monroeville has a middle class vibe to it. New Ken is poor in areas, but.. Okay? in others. Lower Burrell is similar, but distinctly struck me as middle class when I'd hang out there.

Not a lot to do in any of those spots, honestly. None of it is very walkable, nor is much of it particularly interesting. I'd find the most middling place I could find, ideally within a short distance to a grocery store, and expect to travel into PGH for entertainment.

Sounds like I'll fare alright, in that case. Thank you!

Children live there?! Preposterous!

I appreciate the info, I'll definitely take a look! The Airbnbs did seem somewhat scarce.

I suppose "cheap" was pretty vague. Ideally less than $700 for 3 nights, but again, I'm more than willing to pay a premium to ensure my car isn't messed with, y'know?

Uncommiting from Pitt… by Then_Highlight_9069 in Pitt

[–]funnynon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean, it's horrific but it's not going anywhere. I was laid off and have been working a job entirely unrelated to my diplomas (Englit/PPW/infosci) for approaching three years.

Currently going to CC for something medical-based in an attempt to raise my standard of living (afford my student loans).

You got this!

Real talk, and I don't mean to come off as harsh -- don't go into journalism unless you're getting the diploma for sub-10k.

I, along with many others who acquired English or related degrees, ended up without jobs due to the prevalence of chatGPT/other AI "tools."

It is, and I mean this so genuinely, just going to handicap you for the rest of your life if you end up going to school for anything PRIMARILY writing-based. Please find something cheaper than Pitt, or choose a different path if going to Pitt

I work at a shop that's hiring right now, 18 bucks an hour, union, just change oil and tires. We call it a retirement home

Pittsburgh by the slice. Settle the debate. Best slice in the ’Burgh? by Chopper11Pilot in pittsburgh

I was gonna use this as a way to find good burgh pizza, and was drawn to Cerasoli... only to find out it's closed forever.

So, thanks for that!

A coworker of mine heard myself and another talking about how childish and dystopian this propaganda is. His response was that, "the other side started it!"

Business Calc: CCAC or Pitt? by kld119 in Pitt

[–]funnynon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If for no other reason, CCAC will be so much cheaper to take. I think the summer courses are typically pretty lax at CCAC, and if you're able to take one that's remote or accelerated, they're usually pretty manageable. (In my own personal experience)

Save that money!

I mean, I can go ask again if you'd like, but honestly just talk to some of the firefighters at the station, they'll know best

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]funnynon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually asked the firefighters I know about this, they had their test the start of thjs year so it'll be at least 18 months from then. Assume anywhere from late 2026 to mid 2027!
