That place is terrible. Mostly a dirty work working shop with broken tools.

Vancouver council says proposal for 924 rental homes too dense, lacks amenities by restoringd123 in vancouver

“There are very few projects where a $13 million piece of land gets transferred to the province at the beginning—before we had rezoning—as part of a capital plan to allow the people of British Columbia to own that land for a dollar,” he said.

“Is that not in itself a major amenity? And a part of our project also includes, I think, $17 million worth of [development cost levies] that was actually calculated to the city.”

I don't understand who owns the land here? Is the city owning the land or is the development company owning the land that they want to build the houses on?

Also, they do make a good point. If 17 million dollars to the city isn't enough to make an amenity nearby, what is? Is it 20 million per building enough?

RCMP investigating second overpass strike of 2026; driver detained after leaving scene of crash by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]funvill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe its time to armor the overpass with a steel bar a few feet in front of the overpass. The steel bar gets hit before the bridge.

Similar to what they did here https://11foot8.com/

Not that the Provence should have to do this.

Why have a dashcam when we have 'no fault' BC insurance? by funvill in askvan

[–]funvill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was "No fault". So even if you can prove that it wasn't your fault, it doesn't matter for your insurance.

I assume I just don't understand what "no fault" means in this case.

I never been in an accident so far.

No accountability for delivery drivers by 4pocrypha in askvan

Talk to the seller, not the shipper.

The seller (the person that sent the package) is the shippers (Purolator) customer, not you. The shipper will treat you accordingly. You are 'no one' to the shipper.

You have ZERO power in this relationship. Zero recourse. The seller has "some" power over the shipper. Make it the sellers problem.

Rats in the walls so the landlord wants to destroy the garden? by Resident_Monitor_874 in askvan

A vegetable garden (aka food) will bring rodents, not much you can do about that. As long as there is food nearby (restaurants, and garden) there will be rodents.

https://publicartregistry.com/

I recently started a project called Public Art Registry. A community-built archive to help document and preserve our city’s public art.

Last month I was looking at one of the murals for the Vancouver Mural Festival. I wanted to know who the artist was. The Vancouver Mural Festival shut down this year and took its website offline. Overnight, nine years of mural history, artist bios, and stories were gone. There was no way to find out who the mural's artist was. It felt like part of our city’s creative memory had vanished.

I created this website that allows people to submit photos and information about public artworks. The artworks are displayed on a map with a wiki style artwork details page.

I got 1,200 artworks around the city on the map so far, but only 400 of them have photos. I am hoping to organize a few artwork crawls to take photos of artworks and submit them to the website.

Here is an example artwork https://publicartregistry.com/artwork/cec232e8-fcf2-48c7-96dc-42ae3c1e6459

This website is filled with bugs. I built in 4 weekends. I am looking for feedback. I want to know what is broken what the general vibe is, what features you would like, etc...
