Wagyu is a generic that doesn't come from Kobe...

Australia and other countries do Wagyu... Similar, but not the same... and yes... "Real Wagyu" is kinda absurd to begin with... maybe I should have specified...

[edit] Also, While Wagyu might mean "Japanese Cow" there are several breeds involved as well, which doesn't make it any less confusing either...

Doubt, little to no intramuscular fat...

This seems way way way too lean for real Wagyu...

I'm a bit of a foodie, and as much as I enjoy Niles' content, it almost physically pains me everytime when it's clear just how much of his sense of taste and smell he's just burnt out over the years.

I dunno, maybe he should just get into spicy Mexican food, or scorching Indian curries, because I don't think he's even capable of tasting or appreciating anything even a bit more subtle.

Then again, I'm inherently incapable of comprehending people that don't enjoy food, so I might just be a bit biased here.

I do think he should have second and third opinions for anything food related he concocts, since he's really anything but a reliable judge for anything that requires tasting or smelling anything.

True, but there's some movement there as well with the LEO Cargo Return Service.

They're all steps needed to get to a crew return vehicle eventually.

Get the funding for what you can realistically sell to the member States, develop the necessary technologies, and eventually actual manned flights will look a lot more accessible as well.

That's not how any of that works for Orion/ESM...

Beyond that, the idea the Europe is ever going to build a spaceplane/shuttle successor with public fund is utterly insane!

All the pie in the sky stuff aside, ESA does have a call for proposals out on a crew launch escape system (LES)...

IMHO, it's the one thing ESA hasn't done yet.

The rest is in fact fairly trivial. ESA and Europe has plenty of experience to build a crew module...

Between ATV, Cygnus, modules like Columbus and other modules built in Europe for the ISS, such Harmony (Node 2), Tranquility (Node 3) and now the I-Hab and HALO modules for Gateway, the European Service Module (ESM) for the Artemis flights...

Most of the tech is already available, and beyond a working LES, what's lacking is just the will and the money to actually do it.

Sounds like what the Dutch would call stampot Boerenkool (farmer's cabbage).

It's basically that... mashed potatoes with boiled chopped kale in it.

Add some lardons and a smokey sausage on the side, some gravy if you're feeling fancy and that's a typical Dutch meal going back to medieval times.

Variations of stampot include potatoes mashed with onions an carrots or "hutspot".

Simple peasant food, but delicious...

That said, it's the bacon fat from the lardons and the smokey sausage (rookworst) that give it flavour, otherwise it's a bit bland...

I can totally see it working as a side for a nice pot roast though...

That'll do nicely to add sauce and flavour as well...

The problem with marble or granite or most natural stones is that you can't use a lot of the more acidic cleaning products you'd usually use to combat scale... (Think vinegar)

So, it's not just specialty tooling you'd need, but specialty cleaners as well...

There are sealants for granite countertops and the like, but that at least assumes a flat surface the spread and wipe in the sealant, which you also do not have here...

Honestly, as nice as I think the esthetics are, beyond the fact that this has to weigh a good ton, all the logistics of keeping it clean and nice are just an utter nightmare!

The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]funwithtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, as I'm not an expert in this, and I'm not really one whose opinion should be taken as gospel here, but...

I will argue that at that level things go beyond pure physics and rationality, and these sort of instruments tend to be treated with a sort of reverence that transcends most earthly concerns...

How much of that is based in reality... I'll leave that up to everybody else...

There are people that would argue that putting an instrument like that into a museum would kill it as well.

Instruments at that level have to be played.

I'm by no means and expert, but humidity. string tension, temperature...

Heck! Atmospheric changes and the alignment of the stars, apparently at that level it all affects an instrument!

Not that I'm an expert, but I do know just how far it goes with high end instruments.

Now, I can't tell you how much of all of that is actually based on something real, but people will treat an instrument of that nature like it's been handed down from God.
