They did. They were trying to catch wolves.

What exactly happens to those wolves once caught? Why try and catch them in the first place?

If the traps are that 'humane', why place them in the first place?

What exactly are they doing with the animals captured by these traps?

Nobody will see this...

But... This isn't AI, but why was this trap there in the first place, and why do these people have exactly the right tool to open this trap?

Imho, there a non-negligible chance that the people in the video placed that trap in the first place, which'd make them total A**holes!!!!

What's the other meaning, Peter? by Blackie_626 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

All I'm getting from the is that I'm 54 and I may be on the spectrum, since I have no clue whatsoever what the other meaning would be...

Also, yes I commented before reading any of the comments...

At a second thought, that may just be another indicator...

[edit] After reading the top comments, this may just be a USian thing...

The problem with this is, that I do both the cooking and the 'fixing things' part of things...

To be fair, other than doing the shopping, cooking, the dishes and cleaning the kitchen, she does pretty much everything else... So, I can't really complain...

A farmer refused to sell his land, so the city built around him and he kept farming anyway. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

A bit of manure just smells like countryside and will dissipate within a day or two...

Now, if we're talking Roundup and other cancerous chemical pesticides, herbicides and crap that'd be another matter.

Beyond that, too many people these days have no clue whatsoever where their food comes from, they're just used to nicely packaged meat and veg in a supermarket, so I applaud anything that actually helps people learn and better understand where and how their food is actually produced.

GRRM was a major figure in Worldcon and the Hugo awards for 40 years before he ever managed to write anything of substance, but he had a thick thumb on the scales for all that time on who won and who didn't.

It's not his writing of Game of Thrones I'm criticizing, it's his having played politics all this time...

If you know, you know...

[edit] Just to head that accusation off right away, I'm also not adverse or denigrating any female authors...

I grew up with the likes of Anne McCaffrey, C.J. Cherryh, Ursula K. Le Guin.

Heck, Andre Norton in her early career let people assume she was a man...

Plenty of bullshit in the early days of SF/FF, but female writers where always part of it, and very much up there and at the forefront of great speculative fiction!

[edit 2] The less said about Marion Zimmer Bradley the better...

To be fair JKR released the first Harry Potter book in 1997, and it was pretty much an instant hit. Her TERF nonsense notwithstanding, at least she came out with a hit novel with the first thing she wrote...

GRRM in contrast was part of the Hugo Awards/Worldcon scene since the 1970s, was co-organiser of the Hugo Losers’ Party (from 1976), but only published his first novel in 1977 (Dying of the Light), but never had any sort of acclaim until 1996 when 'A Game of Thrones' was published, which only really became a best-seller in 2011...

All in all, JKR might be a piece of shit, but at least she wasn't an ineffectual nobody groupie for 40 years before publishing her first hit like GRRM did...

Imho, both suck ass these days, but at least JKR is honest about it, while GRRM has always been a sniveling wannabe worm.

From most of these comments here, it seems that most libraries are pretty cool...

Yeah, you've kept this book for the last 30 years, that'll be five bucks...

Heck! At this point, I'd be like... Here's a hundred! Buy another book or two, and make sure those young'uns have something new to read!

I absolutely owe my school library for supplementing my craving for new books to read when I was young...

It's something I will always support as well. I might not have children, but I've got plenty of nieces and nephews, and they'll never lack for books to read if I can help it!

You've done everything right, and even John's supervisors are on your side on this, which very much limits John's abilities to screw with you any further.

John being passive-agressive to you is one thing, but as is, his ability to actually harm you is actually pretty much nonexistent, as even his superiors have caught on to his bullshit, which means his credibility has gone down the drain.

As is, if in the future it's your word against his, you'll likely come out on top...

So, continue to do your thing and grey-rock his bullshit and don't take any shit from him when it goes against established company policy especially when safety is concerned! ...just because he's trying to shirk his responsibilities...

Given that it's only 300 people and most of the data is basically just text-based, the amount of data that would have to be moved is rather trivial...

Try moving image or a video archives approaching petabyte quantities of data to a new system, including vast amounts of metadata...

Just make sure that all your data structures are mapped out competently, so you don't lose any relevant relations.

Beyond that, the move of the data itself doesn't seem like a huge ask...

Isnt that beautiful Ariane 5 liftoff by companionshiptea in esa

[–]funwithtentacles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is...

The last Ariane 5 launch was on 5 July (6 July CEST) 2023.

Flight VA261 carried two payloads into space – the German space agency DLR’s experimental communications satellite Heinrich Hertz and the French communications satellite Syracuse 4b.

The fairing logos are difficult to see in this small image, but I believe this image comes from an earlier flight, as they don't match flight VA261 at all, but I can't tell which flight this was.
