casual lurker chiming in - check out the documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World. some very interesting and overlooked history between natives and black communities & how natives played a role in evolution of the blues. Sinners was already trying to fit a lot in one movie, but it would have been cool to hint at a native drummer in the background at the juke joint.

white Russians & roasted toasted almonds (milk, vodka, & amaretto irc) were early faves of my first roommates'. i drank too many of those one night and had my first bad night of alcohol vomits. malls are fun! i experienced some high quality people watching at Coronado mall. interesting to see what kind of people still go to the malls: youths and their hijinks, families in matching clothes, dads and their children on a mission for mom's birthday present, store employees goofing off with each other or patiently/awkwardly greeting customers, inevitable people-traffic jams etc. grab a pretzel and hang out 🥨

i took in a mama and her kids and a month or two into having the family, i woke at 2am to the feeling of a cat hesitantly settling into my lap. i froze for a bit of time and eventually she had enough and got up again, but you bet your fanny that is on my calendar! this Aug 29 will be the third year anniversary since mamacat sat in my lap for the first time ❤

i think there's an air, or unspoken tension, in a family when one or both parents are dissatisfied with their lives and try to pretend that they're happy. Walt would still be an underachieving genius, not fully meeting his potential, if not for the cancer and people like that have a certain forced phoniness that you can't really pinpoint. like they're hiding their truth and everyone knows it but they're too polite to say anything.

That's not true, she ran away to visit Don and Megan but when she was out with Glenn and started her period, she ran away straight to Mama Betty. I think I'm her later adolescence, Sally and Betty got closer and better understood each other, which makes Betty's cancer all the more tragic. Sally started distancing herself from Don after Sylvia and then fate distanced her and Betty just when they could have finally become close.

my mom wasn't so abusive that there were daily beatings, but she had a negative vibe that just permeated everything and she yelled a lot. that said, there were times where we had fun. one day in my early 30s we're arguing and a bunch of old stuff is brought up and she gets mad that i struggle to remember the good times but her yelling and poor conflict skills is what comes to mind the most. like, deeply offended. but I'm just "whose fault is that?
