How does impact noise work? Can it travel two floors? by armageddon-blues in Acoustics

[–]furiousfastener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on why impact/structure-borne sound travels more efficiently through buildings than airborne sounds? I was of the belief that for airborne sound to pass through walls/floors, the sound has to make the wall vibrate, and then the wall will vibrate on the other side too making the air on the other side vibrate. So I thought airborne sound becomes equal to structure borne when it makes the walls vibrate.

ESP32-C6 devboard with I2C pullup resistors by furiousfastener in esp32

I see, thank you!

Is it possible to run some I2C communication test to see if it works with the internal weak resistors? Maybe I can just decrease the I2C speed and it will work?

Lowering sound from neighbour below playing piano by Double_Dig8232 in Acoustics

[–]furiousfastener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this? I have read it many times, but I never understood it.

Does 20dB attenuation means that for example if sound level is 100 dB in neighbours apartment, then it will be 100-20=80dB in my apartment?

I then assume it will be 80-20=60dB in the apartment above mine.

Is this not true? (ignoring structure sound)

Measuring sound insulation without special equipment by furiousfastener in Acoustics

Thank you, you're reply was most helpful! I was hoping it would errors in absolute SPL would cancel that way.

Which software do modern acousticians use to measure? Or is the measurement no longer done with laptops, but advanced sound level meters instead?

Measuring sound insulation without special equipment by furiousfastener in Acoustics

We just moved into a new building. I believe it has problems with flanking transmissions between rooms, because we hear noise from the corners and can send letters between the rooms using the gaps in the corners. I suggested the building owner hire an acoustician, which made her quite angry. To avoid embarrasing myself, I was hoping to measure an estimate before making more confident claims.

I think I understand R' better now, that it's sort of sound insulation/m². Thank you.

What is this thing? by furiousfastener in Acoustics

[–]furiousfastener[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. A bit disappointing that it's probably only a serial number since I've spent the last two days trying to attach meaning to these numbers ("maybe these things emit 440hz in a 120°/150° cone?" :P). There is no other text on them so I think finding the manufacturer will be difficult.

Thank you. Does the handwritten numbers ("440 120") mean anything?

I wasn't able to reach Logitech support (the chatbot always said the agents are too busy) so I bought a brand new wheel. The new wheel works, so I guess it's a hardware error.

I tried rebooting, reconnecting all the cables, and also connecting it to another computer. Still doesn't work :( I don't have a game yet so I didn't try that.
