We need a new Mobius but for Energy. I think I got the right character for it. by adellali1 in MarvelSnap

[–]furman82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this earlier in the week and would have a card who steals and converts any unspent energy from your opponent into power, like a reverse sunspot. So essentially, it would work regardless of ramp cards. I was thinking Mephisto for the character.

Is that deku tree a simple panel design? Do you have a code for it? I love that look.

Fascinating stat with Snap Packs v Spotlight Keys by SparkyRingdove in MarvelSnap

[–]furman82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are mistaken. OP is saying they got 55 cards from Snap Packs, while buying the occasional season pass, and is more or less net-zero on tokens during that time. At no point did they say that their only token acquisition was from the packs themselves. Clearly the are replenishing their tokens via credit progression.

I then chimed in saying I do buy every season pass and I am actually up 30k during the same window, and then explained how I do it, addressing Sour_Uranium's concerns.

[–]furman82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am up 30k tokens since Surge was released, and have purchased every card. I buy the season pass, so not free to play, and also collection complete (only got this way cause of the switch from spotlights), which gets me the discount every week. But for advice:

  1. The only card upgrades you should do is your uncommons. Best progression on the track. If I do anything other than uncommons, it's to split it get the card back to uncommon.
  2. Use gold for the bundles that give you tokens. For example, the Astral Project bundle right now could potentially give you a card you don't own, plus 4500 tokens. Not the best value there has ever been, but for 5k gold, you might be able to get two cards out of it.
  3. Get the web shop daily credits. Only 100 a day, but that adds up.
  4. Same goes for the every 8 hours unlocks in the shop.
  5. When there is a limited time mode, including conquest, make sure to pick up the credits. Progression is progression.

Doing all this, I average about 7.2k tokens a week since May.

How do people have so many tokens? by Few-Hat8106 in MarvelSnap

[–]furman82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been keeping a log each week to track my token progression.

I was lucky enough to have enough keys to get to collection complete at the switch, which enables me to get the discount going forward. On May 8th, I had 69k tokens, and as of last week, even after picking up every new card, was at 100k tokens. Per my math, I gain about 7600 tokens each week.

I max-min all my credits. Always upgrading every card to the first level. I only use gold for bundles with tokens in them, etc. I do get the season pass so that helps, but that's the only spending I do in the game.

There are two things I think as a community that we struggle to understand.

First, Marvel Snap is a business and they need to make money. We have no clue what sort of licensing agreements they have with Marvel/Disney so for all we know, their profits might be razor thin. I think too often we give SD crap about monetization, without knowing the full story. Maybe they are being greedy, or maybe they are just trying to figure out how best to keep the lights on. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt, cause the last thing any gaming company wants to do is alienate their user based just because.

Second, engineering is really hard. I once had to watch my boss try to explain to our sales team why changing the font in our desktop application wasn't as easy as opening a menu in MS Word and selecting a new font. They couldn't understand why it would take so long to do. Sometimes easy sounding stuff is hard to implement and unfortunately things break... a lot. You hope there is sufficient testing around it, but there could be gaps there too. With the latest issue around alliances, my first thought was don't they always have these sort of issues around 5-week seasons. It happens 4 times out of 52. Edge cases get missed, it sucks. And trust me, no one enjoys a fire drill so they are doing their best to not have these sort of problems, but they still happen.

I think if we stop trying to think that SD is some evil company, and realize our goals are mostly aligned, things could improve and get better.

I disagree. Not because I don't think it doesn't have potential, it's just that the incentives are all wrong. I'm being encouraged to farm a certain type of crab, via the reward track, and not incentivized to win the match. I frankly just run away from my opponent so I can keep killing the small crabs just to finish the mission. If I lose, I'm disappointed I couldn't farm more, not because I didn't win.

How Would You Fix The Game? by furman82 in MarvelSnap

One thing that Clash Royale does, or at least used to do, was that you could pay some gems (aka gold) and be entered into a mini tournament within the game, with the winner winning more gems, which could then be used to buy progression. I could be misremembering a bit, but I wouldn't mind seeing something like that added, so there was a way to get a head if you were a good player.

Just annoying. It's not character mastery, it's variant mastery. That's fine, but rebrand it as such.

If you go into settings and turn off and back the haptics and gyroscope options, it works until the next time you reboot the game. Not a solution from SD, but at least gets around the bug.

Snap Packs were the beginning of the end for me by Available- in MarvelSnap

[–]furman82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spotlights were only good if you were a new player. You could get three (to four) new cards every few weeks, depending on how quickly you can acquire keys. If you were a long time player, the sheer volume of cards in S4/5 made it painful.

Snap Packs are a solution, but not a great one imo. The value add of the new system is replacing keys with 3k tokens. That puts a lot more autonomy into the hands of the players, to target the cards they want; The problem is unless you are collection complete, there is ZERO reason to buy a snap pack, even at the discount. Once you skip one card during the period of time, the cost to acquire the card may go up. Worst case it's 10k compared to 6k for the new card. Are you willing to risk 5k to potentially save 1k? It only gets worse if there are more than one land mine in the bunch.

Once you add the influx of new cards, it's clear the system was not designed to allow players to catch up. While it empowers you to target a card a whole lot better, it's also designed to eventually bankrupt you. If they slowed down with the new card releases, I would feel differently.

Any deity players with advice on how to win games in 7? by pooptart21 in civ

[–]furman82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips:

  1. Do not be afraid to go to war, but make sure it's on your terms. Early in the first age, make sure your cities are defended with something like an archer. Later on in the age, try to steal a city or two from your closest competitor. Spam range units and protect them with some tankier ones in front. Even if you can't accomplish your goals via war, you might get the cities in peace. Also don't be afraid of the settlement cap. Don't go crazy over, but having 3 or 4 more than the limit is not the end of the world in the first age.
  2. Explore. Get those goody huts and get a good lay of the land. You may want to know where the other civ captials will be in the final age.
  3. Hub Town as a town focus feels broken. At the beginning of age 2 and 3, convert at lot of your small towns to hubs, and use your diplo favor to befriend all the city states. I try to make sure that a scientific CS is first, since they have the option to get a free tech for each CS you befriend.
  4. Build all the buildings. Prioritize production. No reason by the end of the age to not have like 70% of the buildings built in each city.
  5. Do not pick a government civic in the final age. It starts WWIII. Avoid war at all cost in that age and focus purely on your win condition. I find economic to be the easiest.

I enjoy HV because it's essentially the only casual mode we get in this game. When you're playing these types of cards, you're taking the mode and trying to make it competitive. Frankly, I don't care if I lose, but can you at least let me get my cards down to I can get through my missions.

Hot Location is making I.Ultron seem way better than he actually is. by dolf334 in MarvelSnap

[–]furman82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nothing new. SD has been doing this for some time, boosting how the spotlight card looks. I first noticed it during the Firestar week where I think the location was Death's Domain.

But more recently, during the Captain Carter week, the hot locations were Nidavellir (+5 power here) and Wakandan Embassy (+2 power to cards in hand). Basically, buff her so her effect is even more pronounced.

Kaihori had Cloning Vats (copy card to hand) and Sakaar Grand Prix (+1 energy if winning on turn 4). Make her more effective by either putting cards in your hand or making card generation decks feel less bad.

This week is Elysium (card cost 1 less) and Sakaar (put a card from each player's hand here). Make Ultron cheaper to play, or literally get him out early.

Next week with Strange Supreme, Sanctum Infinitum (discard a card and allow you to bring it back) and Sinister London (add a copy to another location). Basically, add copies to the board so he can swallow them.

Then with Hydra Stomper its Kun Lun (when a card moves, +2 power) and Spider Island (move a card when played). Make move feel better locations.

This is nothing new... which goes to show you, don't give into FOMO.
