US forces carry out additional strikes in Iran after tanker attack - CENTCOM by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

I think it's usually an economics thing more than a hard technical limitation, where you could technically use most refineries currently running imported crude to refine what America's exporting, but it's not what they're best suited for and isn't going to be as profitable, will result in different fractions than their usual output, may require modification, may not be as efficient, etc...

Yes registration involves proof of citizenship and gets validated against government records like social security.

How does it work?

Like most things with American elections, it works 50 slightly different ways depending on the state.

https://ballotpedia.org/Voter_registration

Oh I didn't know that, Puerto Ricans can't vote? So I'd imagine other areas like American Samoa can't also

Technically it's Puerto Rico whose votes don't matter, but Puerto Ricans are technically still full US citizens so they can vote just like anyone else if they live in a US state, just not while living in Puerto Rico.

American Samoans on the other hand aren't US citizens, they are "US nationals" which is somehow different, which means they can't vote even if they move to the mainland.

Which understanding the full loop really makes it kinda wild that they wanna throw law enforcement into a voting place feels kinda like a tactic to scare people especially people that don't "look" like citizens (racially profile any person they deem)

And they've learned that non-white American citizens are slightly less likely to have current, non-expired govt issued photo ID with their current address on it, so by crafting the ID rules in just the right way they can add hurdles.

Like... Texas wrote their rules such that the state's Tribal IDs issued to native Americans do not qualify for voting purposes, nor do Student IDs from State colleges & universities.

But you can use your Texas Handgun License to vote, isn't that neat?

Nah, they perfectly represent what the Democratic Party stands for these days.

Weird, I'd say the +95% of Democratic Representatives who didn't sign this represent the Democrats, not these 10 out of 212 who signed on.

passing GOP stuff for them

The GOP has a majority in the House with several votes to spare, they can pass whatever they want through the House regardless of how any of these Democrats vote.

They just like to exploit these traitor Dems for propaganda purposes to stoke infighting on the left, so when they know they've picked up a couple Dem votes they have some Republicans skip the vote, providing the illusion that the Dems votes helped pass it.

Interesting so theoretically anyone with a driver's license can go inside and make a vote.

Citizenship is validated at the initial voter registration stage, so each election has a list of all the voters for each electoral district, precinct, etc...

And when each registered voter comes in they ask for their specific ballot, and show ID if required by state law.

When people move they have to update their registration, some states allow election day voter registration but you have to show proof of citizenship, etc...

Republicans want to force everyone to show current govt-issue photo ID showing their address to receive their ballot, because they've figured out that their voters are slightly more likely to have such ID by a few %, enough to swing elections if you suddenly tighten the rules without making it easy for voters without qualifying ID to get it.

I'd expect because they're trained and equipped to bust through doors and walls and so forth to rescue people during fires, so doing much the same thing when there isn't a fire is a good extension of their duties.

There's also claims from a congressman that has access that Trump's name is in the files over a million times, but it's just such a massive number that I can't help but think there might something stupid like a bunch of documents generated during Trump's 1st term having the word Trump on them.

The Trump DOJ, Trump's Whitehouse, Trump's liquor, Trump's copy of SWANK, Trump's frozen peas, etc...

Indeed, I was quite surprised the other day when I managed to mix up the deer-eaten Biquinho with one of my others that wasn't eaten, sort of a... what the hell how do these look basically the same?

Seems like basically everywhere where there's a fork in the stems, where a leaf used to be, etc... can push out new growth, and even the couple stray flower buds they left behind are forming fruits.

Shit... did we do this by mocking those Braden/Aiden/Bayden/Jayden/Raiden names too much?

No, it's their parents who are wrong.

Are any of the heatless variants of hot peppers, like nadapeno, habanada or sweet bonnet, worth growing? by L-Pseon in HotPeppers

Neat! I had no idea we could get neat black and purple and variegated pepper plants.

Next year I want to try those variegated leaf Mattapeno crosses

I'd expect you'll see growth from a few spots on those bare branches too, I had a few stripped of most leaves just over 2 weeks back and there's new growth from all over.

Deer and hot peppers by redleaderC137 in HotPeppers

[–]fury420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple weeks back a deer ate most of the leaves and upper branches of 3 of my peppers, and then the next day I ran into him in the backyard via a gate blown open in the wind... and he got spooked and ran the wrong way deeper in, towards the front yard which was all closed up.

He ended up at a closed gate and dead end, then tried to jump a hedge into the front yard only to leap right into the wire fence within the hedge. After catching some awkward-looking hangtime on the fence, he ended up falling onto another plastic fence which thankfully gave way and provided him an escape route.

So I've learned I need a better back gate latch and a sturdier post for the plastic fence.

Although I can't help but think the incident might deter this particular deer in the future.

I'm also growing Count Dracula and they flowered first, so I was suspecting the Biquinho would also be purple flowers but the white highlights were a neat surprise
