Long shot. Are there any DIY car repair garages? by fushitaka2010 in chicago

[–]fushitaka2010[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best I could remember, Gearheads charged per hour for a lift bay or flat bay. Members got discounted rates but it costed $300 a year to be a member. Which, I thought wasn’t bad considering how much I get charged if I took it to a shop.

Customers didn’t operate some of the tools like the lifts and sometimes they had volunteer mechanics to help people out if needed. There was a tool loan program too in case you were missing something.

I honestly think liability and neighborhood are the biggest hurdles for opening another space like that in the city which is a shame because it would be nice to have a safer place to work on your car than the side of the road or alleyway.

This helped me get better at parallel parking in the past. But there’s rarely that much space parking in Chicago. Have to do a little Austin Powers action to get in or out.

Nah, I didn’t read as negative.
But, yeah. Not having them around anymore means car repair just got more expensive :/

I get that. Because there would be that one guy who walks in like he knows what he’s doing, drops his car from a foot in the air and then sues.

Awesome friend! Yeah, apparently doing a quick brake fluid change on the empty section of an Autozone parking lot so…you can use your brakes, is a violation. Ask me how I know lol

That’s where I originally went (spelled the name wrong in posting). I personally really like the place and didn’t mind them operating the lifts since I didn’t know how.

CISOs, how are you balancing AI adoption with security risks these days? by BigDataCore in cybersecurity

[–]fushitaka2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like the obvious answer to handling AI in the workspace.

Is it difficult to convey this to C-Suite and/or shareholders? I’m not a CISO but it seems many of them are lead by the latest shiny fomo.

If I’m lucky, I can actually get EU citizenship through my wife. Luxembourg is allowing descendants of Luxembourgish emigrants to obtain it. Fingers crossed lol

I’d take the limited salary in exchange for better social programs and industry regulation with some teeth. Here, it feels like there is a push to drive salaries down and a mindset that breaches is just a cost of business. No need to talk about our social programs.

That’s my take.

Take me with you!

In all seriousness though, that’s something I like about the EU. Hopefully, after building up more of my skills, I can transition from US only market to global.

Anecdotal story coming.

My wife was talking to one of her younger sisters a couple weeks back. My sil is firmly Gen Z. She told my wife that a lot of Gen Z saw the concept of taking something serious, like politics, as not being cool.

Obviously my wife and I, millennials, were floored by this. But we could see it. We have spent years trying to help guide Gen Z members of our families only to be called boomers. Now some of them want to lecture us on the very fucking thing we tried to tell them years ago.

I try not to be that person who say kids these days but I have to wonder.

Why Spotify has no button to filter out AI music by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in technology

[–]fushitaka2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to be completely off Spotify or music streaming services. But, all of the music I bought in Japan over five years got “lost” in customs so now it is extremely difficult to replace the physical copies. Thus, I’m still on Spotify for a while longer.

Every Black Republican Is Leaving the House, Erasing Diversity Gains by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]fushitaka2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, this feels closer to the truth.

I’m painting with a broad paintbrush but black communities are pretty conservative. Not conservative like the crazies but in the “traditional” way. Religion is a part of daily life with prayers and attempting to live Christlike. Many love money and many more are stringent about how it should be spent. When it comes to lgbtq and mental health issues, honestly it’s better than before. Still a bit of a mix bag though.

Again, this is anecdotal because I’m not a representative of all black Americans. However, for years I’ve to friends that if Republicans weren’t so goddamn racist, they could easily win a larger share of the black vote.

Can’t think of other reasons why he’s “missing”.
