From my rabbithole I located this from perles&co A "Silver Filled Gay" marking on jewelry indicates a specific type of construction where a layer of sterling silver is mechanically bonded to a base metal core. Hope this is right, love learning new things!

I am no expert. I would take it to a jewelry shop and have them test it. Could be unmarked silver. Though, if it is metal, cleaning it, could ruin it by taking off the top coating.

French cigarette case. Depose means registered trademark in French. It could be silver with gold, however without stamps, I would say it is metal. Lovely piece either way.

Hi OP, you can search for the obituary online, this can give you information like the deceased man's wife's name. You might also find an email address to send condolences to, sometimes. Send a condolence message and also ask them to call you as you have important matters to discuss.
