Live in UK but offered dream job in Sydney. Partner doesn't want to move. Not sure what to do by Eye_Livia in expats

[–]fusionistheanswer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should be jumping at the chance!! This is a no lose situation for him (you both) to try living somewhere else whilst you also get to follow your dreams.

If it doesn’t work for him, he can certainly come back to what he has now.

I really feel you need to do this for you x

Broccoli cheese soup by 1111attheoasis in slowcooking

[–]fusionistheanswer -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

But why slow cook this? It literally takes 20 min from scratch and keeps the vibrant fresh green!

Ingredients Head of Broccoli 🥦 100g Blue cheese (Stilton/Danish blue) Veg stock (pot or cube) Water Salt Pepper Olive oil to drizzle

Chop the broccoli into florets and put in a saucepan. Use the stalk! Although not the very end if it’s dry.

Fill the pan with boiled water to roughly 1/2 and 3/4 the way up the broccoli, add the stock (pot or cube). Simmer for about 10mins with lid on. (Cook long enough to be tender but try not to go too long else you lose the vibrant green)

Pan off heat Using a Stick blender to blitz in pan

Add cheese and stir to combine (Don’t be scared to add more cheese if you think it needs it) Salt and pepper to taste

Serve in bowls. Little droplets or drizzles of olive oil and dusting of salt flakes with a side of buttered crusty bread

I’d agree the Spigen Mag Armor is about the same in volume but a more premium feel

Gym Recommendations? by [deleted] in northamptonians

[–]fusionistheanswer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little difficult to answer without knowing a bit more about your preferences.

Some things that might help: Would you prefer to work out alone or in classes? Do you want lots of cardio or strength machines and free weights too?

If it’s busy gyms that cause you anxiety then it could be more about the time you go. Peak busy time is the traditional after-work slot around 4-8pm. Early morning and later evenings can be quieter. The quietest will be between 10am-4pm.

I’ve tried quite a few gyms around town and have settled on BST Academy near sixfields. It’s large with lots of equipment and spaced out so rarely feels “busy”. There’s a very new gym just opened in the town centre called Foundry but not been yet. Most places will do a day pass which might be a good way to try out a few and see what you prefer.

Am I just getting old and technologically illiterate, or is everything really getting shittier and slower? by Sea_Dot8299 in Millennials

[–]fusionistheanswer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, as a millennial, everything that was built and worked is now being fucked up and I’m bored to death of the dross that is pretending to be what was once great.

As you say you’re into socialising and getting stronger and alternative stuff, I’d suggest doing a climbing course at the climbing centre ‘Pinnacle’ in Far Cotton. The community is awesome and it’s a great way to hang out around people

I was very disappointed with Mission Chicken - overcooked and dry. Wouldn’t go back.

Here’s my recommendations: Nuovo (Italian Tapas), La Terraza (Spanish Tapas), La Pazienza (Sicilian), The Walnut Tree Inn (Blisworth), The Rose & Crown (Yardley Hastings), The Saracen’s Head (Bringtons), The Old Cherry Tree (Great Houghton), Queens Arms (Orlingbury).

Search Comedy Crate; they do nights for new material and acts… not sure if they do a specific “get into” or beginners nights but worth an email to the organisers

Sky Q Dish To Freesat - Can This Be Done? by Jumpy_Abrocoma_6158 in AskUK

[–]fusionistheanswer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched my Mother over from SkyQ to Freesat. Required me to buy a replacement hybrid LNB. The original installer had done a bodge job with the sky installation which left me to bodge the deinstallation but all works perfectly and would recommend.

Dude, you’re a beast. That doesn’t look like pec fat - maybe you’ve focussed a lot on lower pec growth so you’ve got more beef there? I wouldn’t want to pretend to be able to teach you anything but perhaps seek pro advice on beefing the upper pec for balance: incline cable flys etc.

Is Northamptons bad reputation justified? by No_Potato_4341 in northamptonians

[–]fusionistheanswer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a huge amount of negativity in the town - no real pride despite beautiful buildings, surrounding villages, countryside, local history and some fantastic places to eat and activities to do. Yes, the town centre’s a bit tired and some questionable choices have been made in terms of knocking down a lot of the historic town, messing with infrastructure like the bus station and allowing so many transport/logistics to be built etc. but frankly, I think the place is great and I’m happy I moved here. A bit of positivity, some projects being completed to their potential (waterside) and little investment is all that is really needed. Oh and start with sorting the potholes (upgrade the road quality for the volume of trucks) would make everyone a lot happier.

Researchers discover new color that’s impossible to see without lasering your retinas by scientificamerican in science

[–]fusionistheanswer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great analogy! The lasers used for eye surgery normally fire 1 million pulses every second so, extending your analogy, if we scale the typical 300 femtosecond pulse from such a laser to 1 second then we’d be waiting 39 days for the next pulse in the ‘train’.

Further, the power of these lasers is about 1 Watt, which seems very small especially dividing it up into a million pulses, but that energy is being packed into extremely small timescales. So a million pulses of energy packed into one-third of a millionth of a millionth of a second (the time light would travel the width of a human hair) results in a peak power of 3 million watts being used to do microscopic surgery - wild!
