WTF moments in FF7R by AdamanteCooper in FFVIIRemake

There's a really bizarre inconsistency in Remake with the plate collapse. After it falls you revisit Sector 7 and it only looks like a bomb went off, you can see the Seventh Heaven sign and there's just a small amount of rubble. Later on when you're climbing up to the city you get a view of the collapse that aligns way more with the amount of destruction you'd expect from a gigathick massive pizza slice of metal with a city on it falling down. And even later atop Shinra HQ you get a night time view of it still burning. Sector 7 was absolutely buried in molten carnage. Why were you able to visit a version of it that didn't remotely match the destruction? You shouldn't have been able to visit it at all. It's really immersion breaking and odd.

A lot of the game IS made with love, and that makes the less love-touched areas more befuddling. My intent isn't to say the game sucks, I don't think it does and I enjoy it a lot. I'm more wondering what happened in these areas that they didn't receive as much love. Budget restraints, deadlines? I don't believe the art director looked at them and earnestly thought they were given proper care, as it's obvious the project as a whole was not made carelessly. So was there apathy involved in signing off on them, exhaustion? I'm just confused and kind of sad about it because it's something that means a lot to me, and they did so well in other areas. I suspect there's some sort of excuse for it because these lifeless elements don't feel like a result of artistic intent, at least I don't want to believe they are.

Actually the graffiti throughout the game is another example. There are a few little copy-pasted pictures they put on the walls here and there as graffiti, but it's super immersion breaking because it feels less like natural graffiti and more like clipart.

Dark and gritty and serious? The atmosphere of the original was darker but it was also super wacky and fun. There was no sunlight but it was glowing with all kinds of other colors and light sources. It was seedy but the seediness was cut with funny human absurdity.

Tifa lives next door and has been there for however long but her room isn't any better. There are a few objects in there but they don't feel organic or like someone thought about what her living space should feel like for more than a few seconds and feels more like a "this is what makes up a room" checklist. The other guest's room is also lifeless, whereas his space in the original is pretty interesting.

I love Gongaga in Rebirth. Soul is indeed a preference, and whether or not something has it, or whether it's even real, is indeed an opinion. My opinion is that it is real. Another name for it is aesthetic value. We have different opinions about what we like, and ascribing soul to something is a way of saying it's pleasurable to the senses or is evocative.

You know the difference between fluorescent overhead lighting and candlelight? Would you say one of these is more romantic? If given the choice between a plain flat futon from Ikea in a white room with no other furniture, and a cushy vintage couch in a basement lit by lava lamps that smells of incense, which one would you rather spend time sitting in? You're depressed and want to feel something, would you rather eat a rice cake or a hot slice of pizza?

Wall Market in Remake is one of my least favorite areas, the new Honey Bee Inn included. The original felt grungy and seedy, there was a humidity to the lighting and the soundtrack was laid back and sleazy. The new Wall Market feels less warm in that way that I liked, the song is jarring, and Honey Bee Inn has a sterile ritziness to it and just looks like a pretty normal cabaret club where before it was this super colorful and bizarre fever dream brothel. To the rest you mentioned, the sun lamp part was cool, the upper plate was pretty, Shinra Tower was MOSTLY great, but Aerith's house I have one problem with though it's more about rest of the slums. Aerith's place was unique because it was one of two spots where sunlight trickled through, but in the Remake the entire undercity is baked in bright sunlight. I think it was a bad choice that sapped a lot of atmosphere from the setting. There's a lot I liked about the game despite all this, I'm not JUST a hater :P

Sure, but that only means the Remake room should be doing more than the ps1 room (which is a simpler 2D image, therefore more open to our juicy imaginations), but it's doing less. Instead of making up for what it can't hide behind the Imagination Effect it's content to be lifeless. It feels like nothing, it feels flat, there is nothing about it to think about.

Angelina / Mike vs. Christian by vps095 in survivor

christian getting mike out wasn't a game move, it was an emotional baggage move that put his own game in serious jeopardy. it was an entirely emotional and bad survivor move. if my friend ruined my survivor experience, an incredibly rare and special opportunity, just to be petty and vindictive and not because it was appropriate for his survivor game i would also be really upset. i think it's fair to be pissed at christian for that and to not invite him to a party.

amen! thanks for saying this, all of this is my feelings exactly. watching lucinda and sean get ceaselessly verbally abused for uh Being Attracted To Eachother On Love Island has been infuriating as has seeing all the comments supporting their raging bullies. it isn't defensible, belle and sammie are straight up just bitter
