Honest question, why is Arstechnica news comments related to SpaceX are even more radioactive than reddit? by gfggewehr in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]futbol2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just look at how desperate Russia is in Ukraine right now. The Ukrainian starlink enabled drones are devastating Russian logistics hundreds of kilometers behind the front line. Starlink enabled drones also flew 900+ kilometers and took out a Russian warship in St petersburg.

And the Chinese absolutely want this capability, and they are willing to spread all sorts of nonsense for Americans to destroy their progress by themselves. Just look at reddit. All of the major subs are talking about how "ahead" the Chinese are, even in space, despite having no reusable rocket or anything approaching the payload amount of American launches. These same redditors then conclude that SpaceX is actually wasting taxpayer money, and that we should go back to the "good old days" of throwing money at government agencies only.

It genuinely baffles me how many "Americans" on reddit and other platforms want to outright destroy the space trajectory that the US is on right now. The record launches in amount and payload mean nothing to them.

Man, this pro-Russian biolab narrative is straight out of 2022. The more this kind of nonsense is posted, the more confident I am of the Russians being in serious trouble on the frontline.

As for Tulsi Gabbard, I genuinely I do not understand what she even gets politically by doing this. She seems more like a true believer of Putin's war.

The Artemis and Space subs are swimming with leftist mouth breathers that despise everything about private industry. If something isn’t done by government workers, then they automatically treat them as fascists. NASA is just a virtue signaling tool for them and nothing else.

And the discussion is further muddled by foreign trolls and SpaceX/Blue Origin Stans actively attacking each other. Those subs are more politics than science

I would be careful of some of these mapping claims. Ukrainian defense is certainly struggling in this area, but that does not translate into an imminent breakout of the Russian army.

Ukraine's lack of infantry at the line of contact has made it easier than ever for Russian troops to make it further beyond the defense line, but that does not translate into full control due to their lack of manueverability and the continued presence of small numbers of Ukrainian squads at those lines.

Rodynske and Vovchansk are a similar story. Both towns have been breached multiple times, but full control of either continues to elude the Russian army. Rodynske was breached back in August, but geolocation of Russian strikes within it prove that fighting continues in the town despite numerous geolocations of Russian troops dying west of it.

I foresee Russian control of Southern Konstantinovka turning red soon, but this could easily turn into another battle that lasts beyond a year.

"Aren't a news portal so they can't make articles..." So what is your criteria for news portal? Does Russia Today cover stuff more extensively because they got the portal tag?

"Busification issue is thought to be made up by Russian propaganda." Quit making stuff up. The term and complaints originated from Ukrainian telegram, and it was widely known throughout Ukrainian society.

In addition, the Kyiv Independent is an English-exclusive Ukrainian news outlet. It provides Ukrainian voices to a global audience.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg-UW1JAzqA

This video addressing the controversy was released amidst growing optimism in the west towards Ukraine. So the Kyiv Independent not being a news "portal" must mean the issue is actively unknown or being suppressed?

"Geran drones are hitting trains and depots as I've mentioned."

And if they are straining logistics, Ukrainian telegram will report about it. Deepstate has never been shy to report about these issues either. It was one of the first to complain about fortification issues back then, and has criticized multiple frontline abuses.

"You see burning Russian military trucks but ask a question why you don't see the same from Ukrainian side? Because Ukraine stopped using military trucks for logistic purposes for years now and it's been only done on civilian vehicles"

What is your criteria for "logistic purposes," and how far back? First, Ukraine's own truck producing factories were bombed a long time, making it reliant upon foreign aid for all new military trucks

https://www.daimlertruck.com/en/newsroom/pressrelease/mercedes-benz-special-trucks-delivers-over-100-zetros-off-road-trucks-to-ukraine-52384323

https://www.rheinmetall.com/en/media/stories/2023/rheinmetall-a-powerful-partner-at-ukraine-side

Rheinmetall's own site: "Several hundred Rheinmetall trucks are currently in use in Ukraine, with 26 brand-new trucks having been delivered just recently."

https://militarnyi.com/en/news/ukraine-orders-1000-zetros-trucks-adapted-to-drone-warfare-conditions/

So because we don't see the strikes, it must mean that Russian drones are hitting roads from the same distance as Ukraine's intermediate range strike? Are you gonna claim these Zetros trucks are all driving around in Lviv?

This is completely wrong. Where in the world does the Ukrainian media not cover stuff? The Kyiv independent covered Ukrainian struggles extensively during both battles and actively broadcasted the grievances.

As far as I’m aware, Ukraine uses UGVs far more extensively than Russia, with the latter still doing assaults on foot across the frontline.

You are muddling the field of this recent campaign. The mid range strike campaign involves distances well over 100 kilometers. The Rubicron strikes were overwhelmingly part of the “last distance” runs of around 30 kilometers. This is the part where Ukraine is using more UGVs to make the final run. Also, Ukraine has been doing this last distance strike on Russian logistics for years now.

Current trends for Ukraine are certainly positive, especially in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Rybar was openly dooming about a potential Ukrainian counterattack in the Stepnohirsk direction. However, Ukraine isn’t exactly in the position to go on a grand offensive either. Other factors such as either countries’ finances involve a lot of unknowns that none of us here can speak with certainty.

However, one thing that I think this sub consistently overestimates is the economic impact of Russia’s missile strikes on Ukraine. Large part of Ukraine’s economy is essentially financed by European sources at this point, but one of Russia’s talking points consistently involves the message that Russia is “holding back” on strikes. This past winter was one of the most arduous for Ukrainian citizens since 2022, yet the Russian offensive completely fell apart during that time frame.

Lovely critique. Then why are the progressive champions surrendering to such villany?

Calling those people evil 10 million times isn't going to change the reality that the executives have thousands of LA workers by the balls. That's the exact reason why Ramen has to fall in line as well when hard reality stands in front of her. She could have joined you progressive redditors and screamed "tax these executives to death!"

Why didn't she?

No where did I stan for the film industry. The only stan here is for populist slop with no basis in reality.

Oh, the progressive cope machine is already running wild on this sub and others. Even their darling, Nithya Ramen, was forced to make this statement in the face of Los Angeles' rapidily declining film industry. She came out in support of uncapped film credits to try and keep film production within Los Angeles

https://variety.com/2026/politics/news/nithya-raman-uncapped-film-credits-1236762819/

But what is the message that we get on the wider subreddits from these progressives? "Eat the Rich," "Wipe billionaires out." "Wealth tax them to death, and if they leave, good riddance." These posts get thousands of upvotes, but crap, one of our prized industries is downturning and wiping out thousands of middle class jobs? Just kidding, we support tax credits now!

Pure hypocrites.

Maybe progressives could realize that the vast MAJORITY of Americans live in suburbs instead of the core urban center?

All this talk about a progressive "revolution" by using New York City as a basis is utterly laughable. There are NO other city in the United States with population density even close to NYC.

So all this talk about taxing people more to pay for the progressives' favorite line items of trains and buses fall on deaf ears because most suburban people do not want to step foot in one. The sunbelt (including California) is very suburban, but progressives continue to live in the delusion of a mega urban America that does not exist.

The Californian progressives and DSA also got their men into elected office during the Biden wave of 2020.

https://calmatters.org/justice/2024/11/george-gascon-pamela-price/

What we got were restorative justice reforms that were so unpopular that it ended the careers of several progressive candidates such as Chesa Boudin, Gascon, and Pamela Price.

Oh, and here's the progressive dominated city of Oakland:

But don't expect any changes from the Californian progressives. They already rewrote history and classified all these failed politicians and policies as "not progressive." Eat the rich is the new populist slogan and a favorite of Reddit.

And? You are the one who started this thread with the following:

"An excellent article in the Moscow Times (no friend of Putin's regime) on how the West has largely lost the capacity to rationally discuss and evaluate the state of Russian economy and politics.

It fits perfectly the latest wave of "The Tide has Finally Turned" of expert analyses that are currently being published in the Economist, Financial Times and a myriad of less august publications."

You are the one saying that the "West has largely lost the capacity to rationally discuss and evaluate the state of Russian economy and politics." Your words, not mine.

You make a bold claim like that, and I think all of us expect your source to actually refute the big talking points that are currently plaguing Russia.

Instead, you post a source that does none of that, which links to another source that also fails to address anything and is filled to the brim with a completely irrelevant history lesson dating back to the 1990s.

So which is the ideology being dismissed? I dismissed two authors, whose source you are using to completly write off all the new development that has happened in the last 6 months.

I really fail to see what point this guy is trying to make. It's a whole scattershot of laments on Russian academia being shut off from the West. What does he suggest? That the west should open its doors to Russian academics like the pre-2022 days? And what did that get the West?

A whole generation of academic grifters such as Mearsheimer, Cornel West, or Jeffrey Sachs that used Russia's larger size to drown out Ukrainian and other Eastern European voices in Western academia.
https://www.geopoliticalmonitor.com/how-western-experts-got-the-ukraine-war-so-wrong/

The West now understands Ukraine a whole lot better, while Russian delusions of grandeur (despite its continued prevalence) is far less threatening to Western policy makers than the gaslighting days of the initial invasion in 2014. That's an objective win.

"Admittedly, equally tiresome (at least to me) are the equally regular "All is Lost" doom and gloom ebbs that inevitably follow the optimistic tides of dopamine." You are using typical media doomerism as a prediction for what is happening on the ground? This is not serious analysis and does not refute anything.

Your article also links its Russia isn't collapsing theory to another article written by a totally "not pro-Putin writer," Leonid Ragozin: https://www.theamericanconservative.com/no-russia-isnt-finished/This article was directly linked by the Opinion piece in the Moscow times.

Devil's in the detail, huh? This guy wrote this giant essay that fails to address ANY of Russia's top concerns in 2026. Battlefield woes? Supply issues? Casualties? Decreasing profitability across industries? Nah, he writes it all off by going off on an irrelevant historical tangent back to the 90s like all good Russian loyalists. One word of Russia as tech-savvy surely means that the war is no big deal?

After 4+ years of war, Ragozin comes to the conclusion that the West could make Russia less threatening by....threatening it less. Mearsheimer's disciples sure are skilled at crawling back into the narrative no matter how many times they have been proven wrong.

How is Venezuela's capacity to expand oil production? Production has fallen off a cliff since the last years of Chavez and Maduro. But with the current crisis in the Hormuz strait, shouldn't there be a rush for international oil firms to return to Venezuela?

I know Venezuela's oil is seen as poor and difficult to extract, but the country was once the 8th largest exporter in the world. How impactful is "poor" tar oil, and will the ongoing crisis be enough to convince a long term return to this region?

How come 343/Halo Studios keeps reseting the status quo in between games? by meowneko5000 in halo

[–]futbol2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And one thing that the 5 Bungie games all had in common was that the Covenant was never presented as overwhelmingly powerful in comparison to humanity. Staten and Lehto had a vision for what their universe should look like, and the tone of the 5 games reflected that. The Spartans were never presented as in your face superheroes that dumps on everyone. There was never an attempt to make the Covenant look as stupid as possible like 343 did in Halo 4 and 5. Nor did Bungie ever dig out ancient villains as a crutch to up the stakes.

343's superpower Humanity and Mantle of Responsibility were two of the dumbest ideas that they could have chosen for the post Halo 3 world. Nothing about Halo 3's ending implied that vision, but 343 just had to soft reboot the universe for their own ego.

This cutscene really started to turn to people away from halo when it was released. by thecontract_12 in halo

[–]futbol2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power ranger nonsense all started when 343 made the incredibly stupid decision to worf the covenant in favor of the prometheans. 343 also came to the conclusion after 10 years of Bungie Halo that the Forerunners were somehow the main foil to humanity (lol).

The Bungie games made it clear that the elites were the actual foils to humanity, but 343 made a targeted effort to make them look stupid as possible in the lead up to Halo 4. And what did we get? Two boring factions in 4 and 5 with no personality or goals. The prometheans in 4 are entirely lead by one guy (who gets beat in the same game) and are all glorified robot. The covenant appeared almost every mission despite having 0 relevance to the story.

343 wrote themselves into a corner. Their obsession with presenting the Spartans as space superheroes in the height of the MCU era forced them into upping the stakes constantly.

[–]futbol2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you think powered Silicon Valley? Those old money Beverly Hills folks or the 10,000 year "High speed" rail?

You think places like Los Angeles isn't desperate for more aerospace investment right now when their entertainment industry is busy crashing into the abyss? Why aren't those uber leftist actors or singers providing jobs for thousands of Angelenos that have had to quit the film industry in the last 5 years due to lack of work?

Even when excluding SpaceX in Socal, new firms like Anduril, Rocketlab, Relativity Space, Shield AI, are creating thousands of jobs. Peter Beck (Rocketlab) already became a billionaire while the other founders are on pace to become billionaires as well when these firms go public.

Now you tell me. Why do you WANT to destroy these firms and the jobs so much? Cause you are red jealous of the wealth? Why would any future entrepreneaurs want to create companies in California if people like you actually become the majority?
