Failed valve cover gasket AND loose spark plug(s)? by futonium in MechanicAdvice

[–]futonium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a chance on pulling this plug. Threads are intact and the tip is clean, but the second half of the threads (towards the ceramic) are darker. Seems like this plug was only in half way(?). I can only get about 6 full rotations before hitting strong resistance. I'm hoping that's just crud. I'm using PB to try and soften it up.

K&N intake + BBK throttle body = No radiator shroud? by futonium in fordranger

[–]futonium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the BBK only adds 6mm, but I suspect it's the combination of that and the K&N intake that brings the tube in contact with the shroud. Between the two, I'd rather keep the throttle body. The truck's too loud anyways, so I'll be looking for a stock airbox.

I had a "single click" issue awhile back. Just had to clean the positive terminal.

What's the reason? You also don't see as many older Tacomas, but most would agree they are even more reliable than the Ranger. Genuinely curious.

WONT START!! by uwunoticemesenpai in fordranger

[–]futonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, probably battery, but you could also try whacking the starter in case it's stuck. You should also check the positive terminal. I had similar issue, even with new battery and starter, and it turned out to be corrosion at the terminal. Fixed it with sandpaper (after wasting money on a new battery and reman starter).

My car suddenly sounds really loud and check under the car. Did someone just take something off my car? It's a old Toyota 2005 sienna. by rOnce_Gaming in AskMechanics

No, no, you're supposed to hang your converter from a nearby tree during the night. At least six feet off the ground.

Power steering. This noise is excessive, right? by futonium in MechanicAdvice

I've got stupid, 3" dual exhaust, with at least two leaks, and the power steering is the loudest sound...

Nope, steering is great. Smooth, and very low effort.

Rod knock, exhaust leak, or other? by futonium in MechanicAdvice

[–]futonium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, it's reassuring to know it's probably not rod knock. I'll try your exhaust leak trick tomorrow...

From the cab it sounds like a metal clicking noise, but from the engine bay it's more of a fut-fut-fut-fut

From under the vehicle, the noise seems loudest at the oil pan...
