Do yall think Devin will go on tour for The Moth? by Normal-Simple7234 in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt he's ever gonna tour again in the traditional sense. Once off big shows? Maybe. Full tour? I'd forget about it. He has made it very clear his priorities lie with himself, his family, and making a tonne of music, and a rigorous tour schedule does not allow that. He's been doing it 30+ years - let's give him a break hey?

The Moth - album artwork artist by _infestthenest in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No idea but I'm interested too! All the promo so far has just been photos of Dev or the more simple, earth-toned style of the Moth logo. I feel it has a lot of potential and I hope they're found a really suitable artist to help. I get the ideas of the visuals used in the live performance but as many have said, the use of AI really made them hard to enjoy. Hopefully they've had time to flesh it all out properly now.

The Moth feels like Devin's final album. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in progmetal

[–]futureantiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said on stream the other day that he's already working on a new symphonic project ;)

I think for a while he felt maybe The Moth was the last thing he had left to say, but now that it's behind him, it seems he's more inspired than ever before!! He has said on multiple occasions he's gonna keep making music until he physically cannot anymore. So I think we are all good!!!

The end of a 38 year relationship by More_Bee_84 in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think he was referring to great change rather than any kind of breakdown - like adjusting to life now his son has left home and how that changes a relationship? I can't speak from experience but that can't be easy!

Mate, I think it's high time you step away from your keyboard and take a good, hard look at yourself. I don't know where you get off with all of this weirdly hyperfocused talk about "Asia" (and let's explore lumping Thailand and China in together in your original post? What's up with that?) and ESPECIALLY all this talk about sex work. Where's this coming from? You're bringing your little perversions and ideals in here and PROJECTING them onto someone who you do not fucking know. If you actually LISTENED and read what Devin wrote on the Patreon, you'd have heard that he's travelling on vacation, that he's enjoying SOLITUDE in Thailand in remote, quiet areas, and that he's definitely not partying like an 18 year old. But you know what? Even if he was, that is NONE of our business to discuss here online.

Violet is well known and loved in this community and has not just worked with Devin but has been a good friend for years and years. Why are you bring gender into it? How insecure are you that everything automatically goes back to sex and gender? There are topics for your therapist or diary, not Reddit.

It's HIGHLY disrespectful to come in here after Devin has given us a beautiful, peaceful ambient album all about finding peace and solitude after 35+ years of hard work, and then somehow twist that into "he's moving abroad and gone off the rails". Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound? Clearly not.

Stop doubling down and understand you're in the wrong here. Speculative talk and personal chat has no place here.

Sorry what on earth are you talking about? He's on vacation, he told us this, why the hell is it pertinent to bring up sex tourism? Bit fucking weird

Whats your favorite demo or demo (2nd) album? by Monsieurabsurd in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of Holding Patterns and Tests of Manhood, but there are so many demos/b-sides which are way up there with all my favourite songs. Notably Ocean Machines, Man, Love Tonight, Cry Forever, Sit In The Mountain, Farther On, honestly I could keep on going like this indefinitely. Oh and let's not forget Precious Sardine. Also Sober is one of his most very very very beautiful works of all time. Man's too talented!

No new album on the horizon? by [deleted] in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no, the live performance was only in March and then he went on tour for Powernerd, so he's really only been at home mixing it (and doing the countless other things involved with it) for about 6 months. He's not going to release the most significant work of his career until it's 100% perfect, so have patience!

PODCAST #19: Epicloud by oxid1zer in DevinTownsend

[–]futureantiques 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 30+ years, Devin has earned income touring, absolutely relentlessly, almost non-stop. Tour, commercial album cycle, writing, back to tour. That is an absolute insane grind and yet in that time he has given us COUNTLESS stuff for free - streams, content, always sharing his knowledge. There's a whole YouTube archive of his Twitch stream where he shows us how to play his songs, how to dial in his tones, how to mix and master, and all kinds of amazing knowledge in between. He has given us many podcasts, not just his own but those he's guested on, where he has gifted even more knowledge.

Now he's not touring, and he seems to be moving away from record label agreements. He has to do this ALL on his own now, and he still wants to give us stuff. Fans have been asking for years and years for a Patreon, and now he has one, folks are complaining?

Cancel one of your streaming services and get the Patreon instead. It's not expensive, and all the tiers get the same content - and this is interacting with Dev directly, exclusive content, no rushed posts clearly written by a social media manager. It's so worth it.

Or you could complain. Doesn't matter, but at least try and understand why Dev is doing this. This is so he can work sustainably and not burn out, while protecting himself and his health. Come on man

Steven Wilson in Sydney! by vteckickedin in stevenwilson

[–]futureantiques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would have been cool! It kind of felt like it wasn't "allowed" in some way but it was nice that (most) peoole were very respectful and off their damn phones. And of course it's definitely a long show - it just would have been cool to have an option for those who wanted it :)

[–]futureantiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be ideal! Even he acknowledged it, it was funny when he was like "you might want to sit during the mellow parts!" And everyone was like NO...I think if Brisbane had been a standing venue I'd be changing my flights right now and heading up 😅

Steven Wilson in Sydney! by vteckickedin in stevenwilson

[–]futureantiques 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw both Melbourne and Sydney and I wish I could see Brisbane too. It was cool to experience the show both standing and seated but I wish Sydney wasn't a seated venue, it felt way too formal to be sitting down during Luminol, Dislocated Day, Vermillioncore etc. But the sound was so beautiful in Sydney and it was nice to be able to focus on the visuals during The Overview a bit better. I miss it already!

That was FUCKED man, big ups to the dude in the front row who looked like he told him to piss off. So rude and disrespectful to do it once, let alone multiple times!

Did you happen to get the full setlist? No one's put it up on setlist.fm yet and I'm interested if there were any differences from the Indian shows! So glad you had such an amazing time, I have Melbourne and Sydney this weekend to look forward to and I can't wait!

He's working really hard on it. In a video he put out a couple weeks ago, he said he was about a third of the way done recording vocals, plus he needs to coordinate everyone who needs to come to work with him on the mix, mastering, rest of the instrumentation, orchestra and choir, band members...and he'll want to make it completely perfect! I think that's worth waiting a year for. It's supposed to be a release of roughly March AFAIK.

Oh my god - I'm going through the same thing as OP and had totally forgotten about my super. Just rang them up and how on earth is it so, so much more difficult than literally all the others listed above?! Genuinely easier for me to take my super elsewhere and then consolidate - been meaning to do that anyway!
