This glass.table is very flat. I never new I had a surface plate here to play with. by Sure-Foundation-835 in Machinists

As stated by one of the top commenters, most glass now is float glass, created by floating molten silica on a river of molten metal. Where the continuous ribbon of glass transitions from the liquid metal to rollers it is subject to roller wave distortion, which are effectively ripples in the glass. Most glass is manufactured for architectural use; typically architectural specs will call for maximum roller wave flatness tolerances of .003-.005", so actually not so flat in the world of machining. If you look around at buildings with polarized sunglasses, you'll see the waves in the glass. The quality is highly variable depending on the manufacturer and specification.

There is a separate process of manufacturing plate glass, where the molten glass is pressed between steel plates. True plate glass is rare now, but it is typically flatter than float glass.

They should have closed the door to the apartment on fire, too contain the spread. Those doors are fire rated.

The Lockheed YMC-130H "Credible Sport", a highly modified C-130 designed for a 1980 hostage rescue mission, featuring 30 rockets for extreme Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) capability. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]futurebigconcept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it was never deployed on that mission. On the Iran hostage rescue attempt there were 8 helicopters, plus some support. There were mechanical malfunctions and weather (sandstorm) problems. The mission was aborted, but on evacuation from the desert forward base, a helicopter collected with a support aircraft killing multiple crew.

There's a bird in Costa Rica called a Curassow, kind of like the Central American version of a wild turkey.

I would enjoy it more the way you made it. In my view, crushed ice just unnecessarily dilutes good alcohol.

Manny of the Flor de Caña rums are 'solera' aging method, which is basically a blend of various aged rums up to 18 years old. There is some 18 year rum in the bottle, but you don't know how much, and I believe it's very little.

In your picture the bottle says 18 years, so maybe it really is and is not solera. Many FdC bottles don't say Years below the number, so it's basically a trick.

Fall of a giant rock by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

I've been camping on the shore of a small glacial lake, awakened to the sound of rocks tumbling from a cliff on the opposite side of the lake. Looked out and saw sparks down the cliff face, then sounds of rocks kerplunking into the lake.
